Fulfill the Law of Christ

Galatians 6:2–3 (NKJV): Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

The sharing and bearing of one another's burdens is the most visible manner of fulfilling the law of Christ. And what is this law? Jesus said "A new command I give you, that you should love one another, as I have loved you, that you should love one another. " This is the Royal Law, this is the defining mark of true followers of Christ. To do this faithfully requires a level of humility that serves without seeking to be noticed. It requires us to have an honest assessment of ourselves, of our gifts, our abilities, our opportunities and our motives long before we give any attention to our works of burden bearing. But all too often it works the other way round. We look at what we have done, what we have accomplished, all the ways that we have "served" never noting the fact that we really could have done much more than we have. We could have given more, could have served more, could have shared more. The issue, at its root, is this: who, or what, do you think of more, yourself? Or others? At the core, if self is the answer (and it usually is), then you have a problem. You think yourself to be something that you are not, you deceive yourself. You think yourself to be a giver, a humanitarian, a servant of mankind, an activst, selfless, caring, concerned... insert your adjective, your own ideals. But the truth is that you are not what you think, scripture says you are nothing, deceiving yourself. All of our pretensions fall apart when we look at ourselves through the eye of scripture. So what is the solution to this dilemma? Remembering that we seek to fulfill the Royal law of Christ, we must look unto Christ!! Let HIM be the focus of our lives, then to allow our vision of Him to be the lens through which we see the world. He must increase, I must decrease, and others are always more important than self. Beloved, this is harder than anything the world will ever ask you to give, to do, to be... but it is also the greatest calling that any of us will ever fulfill. To be Christ unto another is our grandest privilege as human beings. Go, fulfill the law of Christ!!
