CALL TO WORSHIP

I bless the Christ of God, I rest on love divine,

And with unfaltering lip and heart, I call the Savior mine.

As true children of God, we need to keep in view this great and glorious truth – “And we know that ALL THINGS work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me;

I cannot choose the colors He worketh steadily.

Oft times He weaveth sorrow; and I in foolish pride

Forget He sees the upper and I the underside.

Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly;

Shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reasons why.

The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver’s skillful hand;

As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.

TRUE HUMILITY

True humility in its greatest demonstration was evidenced by the subordination of God the Son in His offices to God the Father for the purpose of redemption. When he “thought it not robbery to be equal with God,” He willingly set aside the glory He had with His Father, but He did not cease to be God. When He “made Himself of no reputation, and took on Him the form of a servant,” He took into union with His divine person, true sinless humanity, body and soul, as God-Man. When He “humbled Himself and became obedient unto death,” He was made to be sin by imputation only in order, as God-Man Mediator, to satisfy all the conditions for the salvation of His people. When “He became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross,” He became a curse to put away sin for all those He represented, for it is written, “cursed is every one who hangs on a tree.” And through all this He remained “holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners.” What humility!

Another demonstration of true humility is that sinner who is submitted to Christ and His righteousness imputed as the only ground of his salvation and acceptance before God. He has seen that God would be just to condemn him based on his best efforts to serve God and that nothing short of Christ’s righteousness imputed could ever recommend him to God. He has seen that Christ’s righteousness imputed is his one and only way of standing complete before a holy God, and he is glad to stand there. “Lord, be merciful to me, the sinner” is his only plea. —Winston Pannell

REST FOUND IN CHRIST

In this world filled with turmoil, trouble, heartache and all manner of iniquity, where can a person find any real rest for the soul? The only true rest is to be found in Christ the Lord! “Come unto Me and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). He, who is our Savior, has reconciled us to God, and all of our sins are forgiven through His shed blood. He, who forgives all sins, provides for today and promises strength for all the tomorrows of life; someday we shall enter into everlasting bliss. Find your rest, therefore, in Christ alone! —Pastor Jim Byrd

THE WORK AND GRACE OF SANCTIFICATION

In God’s plan and purpose of salvation for sinners by His grace, the work of sanctification can only apply to the Lord God in and by Christ. It is God’s election of His people in Christ before the foundation of the world (Jude 1; Eph. 1:3-7). It is Christ’s redemption of them by His death on the cross whereby He, as their Surety, Substitute, and Redeemer, purged their sins and worked righteousness by which they are justified (1 Cor. 1:2; Heb. 10:14). It is the Holy Spirit’s work in the new birth to impart spiritual life and bring them in conviction to faith in Christ and repentance of dead works (1 Pet. 1:2; 2 Thess. 2:13-14). The grace of sanctification can only apply to the true children of God. It can only be proven as they are brought by God to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to cling to Christ always for their eternal salvation and final glory. God the Holy Spirit is sent forth to set them apart, first, by bringing them under the preaching of the TRUE Gospel. Under this message, they hear the great truths of Who Christ is in the glory of His Person as God manifest in the flesh, and of what Christ has accomplished for them in His death on the cross as their Surety, Substitute, and Redeemer. The Lord gives them spiritual life and knowledge, a new heart to believe in Christ, submit to Him as their only righteousness before God, and to repent of their dead works and idolatry. The Holy Spirit takes up residence within their hearts and causes them to be engaged in the warfare of the Spirit against the flesh and to continue clinging to Christ for all salvation.
