God uses four things to humble me - my children, my computer skills, my pets, and the gym. Can any of you relate to any of those?? My oldest son came home from college for a couple of weeks. While at home, he milked cows at a local farm. Now if you have ever been in a barn you know it travels with you even when you leave. My son normally takes different shoes for the car. Apparently on his last day at the barn he forgot so all he had was his barn boots. He comes home, showers, and leaves for church visitation. When he returns, it is then that I realize I smell the barn! If I smell the barn, that means the barn is in my car!!! Pull it out of the garage and put the windows down. I go out with soapy water and the vacuum. Since I'm outside, I need to get an outdoor extension cord. Now I need to let you know that as soon as the garage door is open my chickens want in. I come out of the garage with the extension cord and meet my rooster. Why of all days does he think it is time to flog me?? Really? Oh I can tell by the way he is standing he is getting ready to launch. I give a holler which does nothing. Fine, I'm going to swing the extension cord, give him a whack, and he'll back off. What could go wrong? Now folks, I'm not saying I'm trying to reenact David and Goliath; I simply want him to leave me be. If I ever had dreams of being Dale Evans that dream was quickly dashed. You see I swung it and missed him! Yep, I mean he probably didn't even feel a breeze. Instead, the end kept flying and came and hit me on top of the head!! Now I really gave a holler. I'm so thankful I live in the woods because I know I would end up on You Tube if I were in town. It all started with a missing pair of shoes. My boy didn't mean to dirty up the car. His day's journey and mine met. Some of the dirt in the car was clearly seen; other dirt was in front of the seat below eye level. The hidden dirt couldn't be seen but it had to be dealt with. It is what I do when I read the Bible and pray. I'm getting rid of the dirt that is cleary seen and some that I can keep well hidden. Sin like the barn sticks with me. My boy showered but the dirt in the car was still there. Until the dirt in the car was dealt with and gotten rid of it would constantly cling to him. I can carry my KJV Bible, make sure my dress is long enough, say the right words, but until I deal with sin God's way it is going to cling to me. Like the rooster hindered my clean-up; Satan can also use things to keep us from dealing with our sin. "I may do this but at least I'm not like so and so." "It is really not that bad." God wants us to confess and forsake and we will find forgiveness. God has a journey for each us. He will give you the pair of shoes for each task.
