Our Image of God As we progress towards the third decade of the twenty-first century, we find that the way people look at God has devolved from a majestic, powerful, sovereign view to that of someone who is no better than the slovenly old man next door who has trouble keeping his dog on a leash.
People barely think about God having any attributes that are different in kind or degree from those of another human, much less higher and greater.
The term, Imago Dei has no meaning to people who believe that radical individualism is the summum bonum. "The only responsibility that I have is to my own happiness and well-being", not realizing that by abdicating their responsibility to society they are, in reality providing the seeds of the decline of that society.
The way that our modern society looks at God does not have relevance in whether or not God is real; God is real just as gravity is real. Just because I don't "see" gravity doesn't mean that it has no effect on my life. And ignoring the law of gravity can have disastrous consequences to anyone who tries to go through life thinking that its laws don't apply.
Likewise, ignoring the revelation of God, even Natural Revelation, will lead a society towards ruin and destruction. Until people begin to read the Bible with understanding that can only be provided by the illumination of the Spirit of God through faith in Jesus Christ, the world will be ruled by the whims and whimsy of those who may be smart, but not wise.
