LOOK ONLY TO CHRIST

Salvation is found in a look: a look of faith to the Lord Jesus Christ. “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb. 12:2). “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life” (John 6:40).

Don’t look to your repentance of sin for evidence of salvation. Look to Christ who forgives sin! Don’t look to your faith. Look to Christ the only object of faith! Don’t look to your love for Christ. Look to Christ who loves His people enough to die for them! Don’t look to the preacher. Look to Christ whom He declares! Don’t look to signs and miracles and wonders! Look to Christ alone! If you believe that Christ is all it takes to save you, then you will look to Him and never look away.

Drive away the Fowls

In Genesis 15:11 Abraham offers up the sacrifices that the Lord commanded him to offer, and while he did as he was commanded, the fowls came down upon the sacrifices and Abraham had to drive them away. So often in worship thoughts fly down into our minds that interrupt our worship of Christ. However, like Abraham, we must drive them away when they come so that we may be able to worship Christ as he is to be worshiped.

DRAW = DRAG

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:44

No man can come to Christ except God the Father draw him. The reason a man can’t come is because he is dead in trespasses and sin. Did you know that the Greek word for “draw” means to “drag?” I understand that God will not drag any man to heaven’s glory, kicking and screaming against his will. God simply makes the chosen sinner willing in the day of His power. (Psalms 110:3) But the only two ways to bring or take a dead man with you somewhere, is to drag him or give him life. Thank God, that in Christ, God draws us by the cords of His love, power and grace and gives us spiritual life through a new birth. The saved sinner is made able and willing only because they are made alive unto God. (1 Cor. 15:22)

MUST ELECTION BE PREACHED?

If the Bible teaches it the short answer is yes. And the Bible does teach election and that cannot be denied. Election is a declaration of the character of God. Election speaks of His sovereignty, independence, immutability, eternality, and love just to name a few of His attributes. Election is a declaration of man - dead in sins, unable to be saved apart from election. Election is a declaration of the intent and success of the cross. There is no understanding of the cross of Christ without understanding all He died for must be saved. There is no understanding of the work of the Spirit of God in regeneration apart from seeing He gives life to those God elected and Christ died for. It is impossible to believe salvation is all of grace and not preach election. Election is what the sinner needs to hear. It states emphatically that we cannot be saved by our works. It is only when we see we cannot be saved by our works that we will call for mercy.

Must election be preached? Absolutely! It is impossible to preach the Gospel and leave out this holy truth.
