This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
I was sent this little sermon by Dr. David Mackereth. I would highly recommend it to you. If you don't have time to listen to the entire 38 minutes, skip to the middle and listen to the end. Dr. Mackereth is a medical doctor who was fired in 2019 for refusing to call a man a woman. He received quite a bit of attention in the news after that incident. I was just deeply impressed with how on-target he was with this sermon. He speaks of the importance of the Word, prayer, and family worship. He's a layman. But I believe the Lord is raising up lay people in His church to be bold witnesses. That gives me encouragement.
I was also informed that a church in Ontario attempted to meet for service yesterday morning outdoors in their own parking lot when they were met with a very belligerent woman who called the police on them after much opposition. The police eventually told the pastor that after tomorrow they won't even be able to meet outside. The whole thing is quite distressing and pastors in Canada need our prayers as they are under a lot of pressure.
