This resolution of Daily United Prayer is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
Dr. Sexton recently hosted a conference called, Our First Freedom Conference, at the close of which he brought to the platform Dr. Richard Land to bring some final impromptu remarks which blessed me immensely. I have extracted this 5-minute clip from the original sermon for your convenience. Although Dr. Land makes reference to America due to the nature of the conference, it can be applied to your own country.
In it, Dr. Land observes that God's "good hand" was upon Ezra as we read in Ezra 7:9. This speaks of God's special blessing, power, and approval upon this man. He went on to explain that Ezra 7:10 gives us the reason as to why that was the case. "For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments." This is an incredibly important observation and one that I trust we will all take to heart. Ezra had "prepared his heart" to seek the law of the Lord. In other words, Ezra had made it the settled goal of his life, his highest ambition, his "one thing needful," to be a student of the WORD and to seek God in His WORD. This is why when we pray, it is so important to have our hearts first instructed by the Word. But then it didn't stop there. He was not just a good hearer of the Word, but a doer of it as well. And finally, he taught to others what he himself had received from the Word. In other words, it didn't stop with him. He wasn't a "Dead Sea" Christian where he had no outlet to others in his life.
Friends, let us make this our life's ambition as well. KNOW the WORD, DO the WORD, TEACH the WORD. Knowing the Word is to know God Himself. For the people that do know their God shall be strong and do exploits (Daniel 11:32). But we should also endeavor to OBEY all that is commanded therein for us to do. "Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you." John 15:14. And finally, we must make every effort to teach, preach, share, declare, distribute, publish, mentor, disciple, or otherwise influence any and all that come into contact with us so that we are effectively multiplying ourselves everywhere we go. Take the name of Jesus with you!
O! May the good hand of our God be upon us! Amen.
