United Prayer Journal // DAY 136
This resolution of  Daily United Prayer  is based on An Humble Attempt, originally put forward by Jonathan Edwards in 1748. Its design is to encourage God's people in the duty of united extraordinary prayer; setting aside some time every day to pray for the revival of His church and the advancement of Christ's kingdom in our homes, in our churches, in our nation, and in the world.
One of our praying participants sent me this video recently.
Two sisters (ages 10 and 19) sing a beautiful Easter hymn with just a simple piano accompaniment. As I watched and listened to this video, it made me realize afresh just how blessed we are as Christians that we have a message of life and hope for a sick and dying world. In fact, it is the only message of hope. We have something to sing about. We have something to shout "Hallelujah" about. The world, in contrast, has no message. It has no hope. Far from beautiful, it is ugly, hateful, wicked, and self-absorbed. Just look at the trash that is paraded as "music videos" in pop culture today and all you see is debauchery, violence, and sin. Tell me you don't see a stark contrast. Indeed, the way of the transgressor is hard. He is risen! Just as He said. As the children of light, let us take the light of this bright and happy message to a world full of darkness.

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Philippians 4:8.

On another note, someone asked me to share with him the motivation behind the lineup of speakers for the upcoming Foundations Conference in December 16-17. I thought it would be helpful to share with you all what I shared with him.
In a word, Psalm 133.

Every revival in history has been marked by a charitable spirit of unity among the saints. I believe that there needs to be attempts made to encourage respect and friendship among differing brethren “as much as lies in us.” It is well understood that our convictions on various points of theology, interpretation, or practice will not allow us to labor in the same church but we should not interpret that to mean we cannot recognize each other as part of the Kingdom of Christ. We do ourselves a great disservice if we fail to derive benefit from the gifts and strengths of other men. “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” (James 3:16)
Finally, I have asked the Lord to help me to continue to write these emails. I thought to back off and switch to weekly but I just couldn't. Perhaps you could pray that God will use these simple thoughts to encourage others to join us for prayer? I still believe that what we are doing here each day is of paramount importance. I have also started to post these emails publicly on SermonAudio itself. That way they can be more easily shared and read even without "signing up" for the emails. Lord, give it wings!
