The trimmed-down 72nd annual conference of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS), held virtually this week, usually welcomes up to 2,000 top scholars to present on the most salient issues facing evangelical scholarship.
This year’s theme: Islam and Christianity.
“We are called to truth, and to understanding the world around us more accurately and thoughtfully,” said Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (SBTS), who also served as ETS program chair.
“That certainly includes our understanding of Islam, which has from the beginning represented an enormous challenge to Christian evangelism, apologetics, theology, and cultural engagement.”...
PRE-Christian state which is where we find the unsaved muslims, invited to this conference. Who BTW have not been converted by God.
"There are those of us who do not dare to be wise beyond what is written, nor do we boast by other men’s measure of what God has or has not done for us. We say that indwelling sin lives in us to some degree as long as we are in this world. We do not dare to speak as “though we had already attained, or were already perfect.” Our “inward man is to be renewed day by day” while we live here. Amid the renovations of the new are the breaches and decays of the old. While we are here we “know but in part.” We have a darkness remaining that needs to be gradually removed by our “growth in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” But “the flesh lusts against the Spirit, so that we cannot do the things that we want to do,” and we are therefore defective in our obedience as well as in our light. We have a “body of death” from which we are not delivered until the death of our bodies. Now, having a duty to mortify, to kill sin while it is in us, we need to get to work. If someone is appointed to kill an enemy, and he ceases striking before the other ceases living, he does only half his work." (John Owen)(Mortification of Sin)
There sure were a lot of liberal phrases sprinkled into that article, with some good ol fashion identity policts. I am old enough to remember when you just spoke the truth to people and it didn't matter how a particular group felt about it as long as you spoke the truth. Now you have to worry about how this group or that group may perceive the truth because of polling. It's a bunch of nonsense!
Good ol Al Mohler- everyone is invited to the big tent meeting. Muslims, LBGQT, BLM. And, everyone is on board to push out those narrow minded hate filled, conservative, independent ,fundamental, Christians.
The Muslims must be jumping up and down with glee at the success of their “takiyya” (sanctified deception as is taught in the Koran), and laughing all the way to the bank!!
This is called Chrislam. There are the full blown direct forms of Chrislam, where Muslims are invited into Christian churches to preach, (though never the other way round, Christians are only invited into mosques to observe and be told propaganda), or where very misguided or liberally leaning missionaries tell potential Muslims converts to Christianity in strict Muslim countries to be “Messianic Muslims” in mosques, but believing in Jesus!! Alternatively you get very dodgy Bible translations so called imposed against their will on local Christians in such countries by Western translation societies, which completely butcher it “to keep Muslims happy” and “contextualise the Gospel”!! Then you get these more subtle forms at Christian theology conferences, and very weak and watery debates with Muslim scholars. This is a bit like the false prophets and compromising kings in OT Israel trying to syncretise their true religion of Yahweh with the false Canaanite religions of Baal, Astarte, Chemosh and Molech , amongst others, which was rightly called out by the true prophets of God, like Elijah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah and so on. It is shocking to see very prominent and senior professing evangelicals falling for this. The Muslims must be jumping up and down at the success of their “taki
Would GOD invite Muslims to express their views and ideology to a "Christian" forum?
NO!!
God sent HIS Son to die upon a cross to effect salvation for the Elect.
If there was ANY other religion which HE recognised as effective - THEN HE wouldn't have crucified His Son. Would HE!
So Phil 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;"
John 10:30 I and my Father are one."
John 14:9 he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."
John 5:23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him."
Rev 5:9 Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation"
Wonder who they will invite next year? Atheists, Papists, JW's. Mormons, .....
Jim L, I find you interesting. There are times you seem antithetical to christianity & other times you seem agreeable. There are times you seem to understand the text you quote and other times ignorant of its meaning. Sometimes you seem friendly and other times contentious. I at first thought you to be a rude provocateur against Christianity, but then i see flashes of something else.
I’m pondering if you’re either a backsliden Christian or mad at them and God for some hurts and or failings? You definitely have shown your dislike for evangelicals, were you one that was betrayed by another or did one hurt you and thus you lash out?
I’m praying for you and encourage other brothers and sisters of Christ to do the same. I’m not sure if there’s anything I can say to win you to Christ Jesus, but i do know God can not only touch and heal your heart, but he can give you a knew one!
Inviting Muslim's to be on this panel was a mistake in judgment. A believer's relationship with a Muslim neighbor should stay within the bounds of what the LORD taught in His parable we call "The Good Samaritan" and an opportunity to evangelize and present the Gospel to them. To go any further and show any sort of respect for their "god" and religion nullifies our Great Commission to preach the Gospel to every creature.
On a more dangerous note, Islam and Christianity are spiritually diametrically opposed to each other with no room for reconciliation outside of Christ. This is the clear picture in Galatians chapter 4:
28 Brethren, we are like Isaac: children of promise. 29 But just as then he who was born carnally persecuted him who was born spiritually, so also is it now. 30 Nevertheless, what does the scripture say? Put away the bondwoman and her son. For the son of the bondwoman will not be heir with the son of the free woman. 31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free woman.
Islam blasphemies our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ by refusing to recognize Him as the Son of God. Should we bless those who believe such things and actively target and recruit those who are weak in the faith? No. We must be smarter than this!
Silas wrote: .... The kingdom of Allah is both spiritual and physical and Muhammad desired and enjoyed the plunder from his defeated enemies. Note that “terror” was one of his tools. (See David Wood’s article: “Allah: The Author of Islamophobia”) https://tinyurl.com/y4nynp39
Following Muhammad’s death the successive Caliphs continued his policy in full. Within 100 years the Islamic kingdom was one of history’s largest empires. Allah’s command to use force to establish his kingdom on earth is an integral part of Islam’s physical and spiritual approach towards the non-Muslim world. It has molded Islam into being a religion of temporal power and domination. Islamic political and martial rule over others is a fundamental Islamic goal and worldly power is the key to that goal....

Wonder if they know what “theological” means???
Phil 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.“
Looks as though the poison of satanic Liberalism has penetrated “evangelical” too.
Perhaps these are men-pleasers rather than God servers.
