30% of U.S. evangelicals don't believe Jesus is God, survey says
According to a preliminary release on the findings of the 2020 State of Theology survey, 52% of American adults believe that Jesus was a great teacher, but he is not God.
Among those surveyed who identified as evangelicals, 30% agree that Jesus was merely a great teacher, and ânearly 65% still agree with the statement, Jesus is the first and greatest being created by God".
Ligonier Ministries' biennial State of Theology survey âprovides key findings on what Americans think about God, truth, the Bible, worship, and ethical issuesâ, the authors say....

"EVANGELICAL" 1. Also e·van·gel·ic. pertaining to or in keeping with the gospel and its teachings.
2. belonging to or designating the Christian churches that emphasize the teachings and authority of the Scriptures, especially of the New Testament, in opposition to the institutional authority of the church itself, and that stress as paramount the tenet that salvation is achieved by personal conversion to faith in the atonement of Christ.
3. designating Christians, especially of the late 1970s, eschewing the designation of fundamentalist but holding to a conservative interpretation of the Bible." (dictionary.com)
John 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and my Father are one."
'But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep.' Jesus states above. And there it is those who are NOT of the flock of Jesus simply do not receive the truth of Scripture. The Pharisees thought they were the people of God and as Christ points out they did not/could not get the message.
Today there are many people who identify themselves as "Christian" and if you dig deep what you hear is human conviction and NOT true faith.
Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Episcopalians, PCUSA and many other denominations are infected with Liberalism which is simply false witness - But are utterly convinced they are the real thing. Sad but true.
Sin enables human conviction to "FEEL" like faith to the religious reprobates.
I think you can never assume everyone who sits in the same church with you agrees with everything that is said or sung there. Many are there because their wife or husband makes them, or their family all goes, or some other reason (life insurance seeking contacts, lawyers looking for clients, car salesmen, etc). So..on a positive note...it means there is a lot of Missions Field sitting in your own church! No need to send a missionary. Maybe it's better to assume that most people around you are not believers.
Isn't this just one more disturbing sign that we have come to use the terms "Christian", "evangelical", and "born again" too loosely? Isn't this just one more warning sign that even amongst people who attend a church they have no idea what is the Gospel of Jesus Christ? No real idea of personal sin? No real idea of what is the only way of getting our sins forgiven? The only way to have peace with God? The only way to have a relationship with Jesus Christ?

Jhn 5:21-23 For as the Father raises the dead & gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will. For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who doesnât honor the Son doesnât honor the Father who sent Him.
In order for His death on the cross to be salvific, someone must also believe that 1) Jesus was the Son of God, that 2) He did die on the cross for their sins, and that 3) He was raised for their justification. If we leave any of these important facts out, then can someone be saved? If someone says they believe that Jesus was simply a man, can that person be saved? If someone doesnât believe Jesusâ death on the cross paid the penalty for their sins, can they be saved? If someone believes that Jesus was the Son of God and He died on the cross for their sins, but He is still in the grave, can that person be saved? The answer to these three hypothetical questions is clearly no.
There is ample proof in the Old Testament as well as the New that Jesus Christ is God. At least that is true for the Authorized Version; the watered-down versions tend to cast doubt on the deity of Christ. Those who donât believe in the deity of Christ havenât read the Bible, or they have read it and didnât understand and/or believe what they read.
1 John 5:7 KJV (7)Â For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
John 1:1 KJV (1)Â In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 KJV (14)Â And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV (16)Â And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: **God** was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
