Comedians could fall foul of Scottish hate crimes proposal, lawyers warn
Comedians at the world-famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe could end up in court if they make jokes about LGBT+ people that fall foul of a proposed hate crimes law in Scotland, lawyers have warned.
Under the new law being considered by the Scottish parliament, existing hate crime legislation that covers race would be extended to LGBT+ and intersex people, as well as adding provisions on age, disability and religion.
"It's up to the police to enforce the law, but the way things are going at the moment, it would certainly catch some of the more offensive jokes," Iain Buchan of Glasgow-based law firm Gay Lawyers told the Thomson Reuters Foundation on Friday....
Progressives eliminated humor as an American pass time. Since Covid, all late night hosts would be best served if they went home and didnât show up on television. And to think people didnât like Jay Leno. Inoffensive, not mean, and not filled with alienating 50% much less 38% of anyone who didnât march, fists clenched, spewing filth, and interviewing communists or people who have no sense. Yeah, good old boring Jay Leno, last guy I watched on late night. At my age, itâs best I go to bed early.
There are some on here that need to revisit Jesusâs Sermon on the mound and allow the Holy Spirit to teach them a few lessons on real Christian love and what it actually means. Jesus warned not to hate our enemies and brethren. For one thing it sets us up to be judged by God when we stand in judgment of others and say all kinds of evil against them. And hatred in the heart leads to other things including murder. An example of this in recent news: A man dressed as a FedX driver, went to the home of a known woman Federal Judge and killed her son and wounded her husband. She happened to be in the basement at the time. The reason for the attack, he hated feminists and that included his own mother and we know that because he had written on social media his thoughts on the matter. Killed himself later. Extreme, not really as I have witnessed the same thing without the attack physically, just mentally.
