Pastor John MacArthur may face fine, arrest
County officials have allegedly threatened Grace Community Church in California with fines and possible arrest for reopening his church in defiance of lockdown orders from Gov. Gavin Newsom during the pandemic. Still, Pastor John MacArthur has vowed to continue in-person services.

"We will obey God rather than men," MacArthur said in a video statement Friday. "We're going to be faithful to the Lord and we're going to leave the results to Him. Whatever happens is going to be what He allows to happen. But He will be on our side because we will be obedient and faithful to His word." ...

Mr Lincoln, there are three factors here that make Governor Newsom’s ban on churches meeting very egregious.

The first is the blatant hypocrisy of a ban that excludes churches meeting on health grounds, when lawless non-“social distancing” rallies, protests and such like are not only allowed, but actively encouraged by the governor, who has also allowed abortion facilities to stay open.

Second is that the fact that all this is government by decree, and none of this has been debated or approved by an elected Congress or Senate, even though I understand unfortunately that these State legislative bodies are no doubt full of Newsom’s supporters.

Third, these orders are indefinite, they have no time limit. This is not democracy, this is absolute monarchy, which I understand is not permitted by your constitution. It is obvious that Newsom is waiting for mandatory vaccines, before he will lift these restrictions, and that is also a whole controversial area that should be fully debated properly by the legislature, not decreed by a governor.

Mr. Lincoln, I suggest reading Acts 4. I think it will help your perspective. It's not that they are defying the government, the fact is that they are choosing to obey God rather than men; and that's Biblical.

it is interesting to see that John is in agreement with the Pope. ❗ 👎

Zack Budryk wrote:
The pastor of a Capitol Hill Catholic church tested positive for the novel coronavirus the same day he suggested parishioners who did not attend in-person church services over fears of infection were “lukewarm” in their faith....

Pope disagreed with Goldstein’s characterization of his positions on the pandemic. “When I say, ‘Do not be afraid,’ that is not to say, ‘Be reckless,’” he said. “There’s a middle ground between afraid and reckless, and that’s prudence.”

The Constitution does not leave the states as mere bystanders forced to watch as pastors such as Tony Spell bus in hundreds of people for church services. Such services are worse than a “suicide pact.” They are a pact to serve potential spreaders. Spell may declare that “true Christians do not mind dying,” but their neighbors might mind a great deal. He should do what he believes God wants him to do – period. And, he can afford any fine and he can hire the best attorneys available, so I doubt he will spend any jail time. And this will not result in a decrease in his ministry at all.

I am pro MacArthur so don’t take this comment in the wrong way. All I am saying is his difficulties aren’t comparable to many others who are being threatened in similar ways.

Whether One May Flee From
A Deadly Plague?

"To begin with, some people are of the firm opinion that one need not and should not run away from a deadly plague.
Rather, since death is God’s punishment, which he sends upon us for our sins, we must submit to God and with a true and firm faith patiently await our punishment. They look upon running away as an outright wrong and as lack of belief in God. Others take the position that one may properly flee, particularly if one holds no public office.

I cannot censure the former for their excellent decision. They uphold a good cause, namely, a strong faith in God, and deserve commendation because they desire every Christian to hold to a strong, firm faith. It takes more than a milk faith to await a death before which most of the saints themselves have been and still are in dread. Who would not acclaim these earnest people to whom death is a little thing? They willingly accept God’s chastisement, doing so without tempting God, as we shall hear later on." (Martin Luther)

MacArthur is right in what he does. The church is under threat. You are fighting against religious liberty, Jim.

The Roberts court struck down Calvary Chapel of Reno, Nevada petition to expand the 50% rule to their church services. Casinos are at 75plus % , but churches aren’t. Yeah, actually, if California and other blue states start arresting pastors because they won’t pay their fine , and one of these elderly pastors ( MacArthur’s 81), gets Covid in jail or in a court room- this won’t be a Floyd riot- depending on the state- it could be Bull Run. There’s a reason Governor Greg Abbott opened churches back in June, church goers who have their concealed to carry or open carry- they go to church to worship and protect their ability to safely assemble.

Amen, Brother Frank! I certainly didn't anticipate the speed at which Christians have been curtailed nor the issue - COVID-19 response - over which our rights would erode. My guess was the LGBT movement and in slower stages.

It is gratifying to see men "play the man," as it were and not bow to pressure. We need to be ready to do the same, fully equipped in the full armour of God, and having done all, to stand.

I hope these churches are going to take legal, financial responsibility for any deaths or illnesses that they have helped to spread?--If do help spread covid-19 they should be financially liable for it.

I don't agree with certain aspects of MacArthur's interpretation of things and situations, but certainly appreciate his stance. California has long desired to rid itself of anyone who shares the word of God as the Lord opposes many of the concepts that the state is implementing and enforcing.
At some point, hard decisions about remaining in California will have to be made for those who's trust is in Jesus Christ. Remaining means facing greater persecution. Fleeing may mean loss of family ties, family property, and livelihood.
May the Lord preserve His saints and prove to this watching world that He does not take their mistreatment lightly.
Great comment brother and I agree completely. We should obey God rather than men at all times. My guess is that is difficult wherever we live, but like you said more difficult in places like California.

Christ Jesus should be our Lord and Savior - both.
