Boeing Executive Resigns Over 1987 Op-Ed Opposing Women in Combat
The head of communications at Boeing has resigned his post after an employee complained about a 33-year-old article he wrote arguing against putting women in combat roles in the military.
Niel Golightly penned the op-ed when he was a 29-year-old lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. It appeared in a magazine published by the U.S. Naval Institute, an outfit which describes itself as “an independent forum for those who dare to read, think, speak, and write to advance the professional, literary, and scientific understanding of sea power and other issues critical to global security.
“At issue is not whether women can fire M-60s, dogfight MiGs, or drive tanks. Introducing women into combat would destroy the exclusively male intangibles of war fighting and the feminine images of what men fight for—peace, home, family,” Golightly wrote, according to an excerpt published on the U.S. Naval Institute’s website....
God's greatest blessings to all of you. Each comment below mine all made sense, hitting the nail square on its head. I enjoyed reading them. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.
As if training readiness and combat was not enough. Back in the eighties when girls first placed on combat vessels. Those deployed to the Mediterranean would have to stop in Siconella naval base to drop off pregnant girls. These problems will persist , including murder , as long as the military is coed and not built by a draft.
If you look at the church version of this dispute the Liberalists have put women in the pulpit.
The truth of the matter has nothing to do with womens abilities - or mens.
It has to do with the FACT that God does not use women in the pulpit. Therefore it has nothing to do with human abilities.
For thousands of years Christianity did not place the female in the pulpit in obedience to the Bible. ALONG comes Liberalism and hey presto anybody can go into the pulpit. (Including sodomites) This is an insult to the woman. They had to wait for UNBiblical heresy to get into the pulpit.
Two religions in the churches (1) Biblical. - (2) Liberalism.
Obedience of God is non negotiable. However the Liberalists reject God, Christ, Holy Spirit and Bible. AND write their own version which will never save them.
1Tim 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to USURP authority over the man, but to be in silence."
A female soldier complained about another soldier, a male, watching her when she showered, following her when she jogged, etc. She filed sexual harassment on him and the next thing she knows he's bashing her head in with a hammer, chopping her body into pieces, and burying her remains. Graphic. Horrible. True story. I dare say more of these cases will happen if men and women remain in the army together, in the same bunks together, etc. There's a reason divorce rates are high in the army....
Neil wrote, “It must've been a hard job, being communications director for a company which has lost its integrity, a fatal error anywhere, but esp. in the airliner business.” You’re absolutely right, Neil. As one who spent many years in the field of communications, I’m sad to say that it’s no longer about saying the things that are right, but about being careful to say only the “right things.”
John for JESUS wrote: It's a bunch of political nonsense until women have the same physical requirements that men do. Women have lower standards to meet, and then people are like, see, women can do it too!
I didn’t read the article.
I agree with your thought process. Women are not suited physically to engage men in a physical confrontation. They have to dummy down the standards for women to pass the same military courses that men do. Anyone who has served in the military would know that. So what this does is it puts men in danger when they do have to engage in combat.
Women know this is true, but like Eve they desire something they were not created to have. What a sick and perverted world we live in.
Thank you for your service as well, Mike. I think you are correct. Women in the military was early in the incremental change that thr Progressive elements have imposed on the US. The US military is an easy target for such social experiment and changes. LGBT was the next effort.
Sadly, I have seen the brokenness from unfaithfulness and temptation that has come from these policies. Grateful I was never part of any of it.
It must've been a hard job, being communications director for a company which has lost its integrity, a fatal error anywhere, but esp. in the airliner business.
How are the mighty fallen! Boeing used to have gutsy, innovative management under men like Bill Allen and Joe Sutter who constantly pushed the state of the far forward, often at great risk, but America doesn't raise up men like that anymore.

QC, I would suggest that is the motive behind the push. Crumble unity, demoralize, deconstruct. Strategy, claim not putting women in combat is a sexist no-no. Just another branch of the same tree that has taken root in the West in other areas, education, revisionism, promotion of victimhood, worship of what passes for science, etc. Devious but actually pretty smart, seeing as how a direct confrontation would imprison or rain death upon them. Can't win that way, so other ways are found.
Ps, thank you for your 20 years service! Mine were many fewer.
It's a bunch of political nonsense until women have the same physical requirements that men do. Women have lower standards to meet, and then people are like, see, women can do it too!
I can remember as a boy, when apart from nurses, administrators, communications, and other background operations, generally women did not serve in the military.
There were three nursing corps or regiments, one each for Army, Royal Navy / Marines, and Royal Air Force, and then one general corps or regiment for each service, and they all had their own separate uniforms and barracks, and they never went in front line service.
Now all that has gone, and the new political correctness has stated that some can serve anywhere and everywhere!!
Now, of course, it is but only women, but LGBTQ and even the Transgender. All this is a recipe for disaster, and the various Communist and Islamic armies that might oppose us, are very happy at this state of affairs. We do not have conscription in Britain, but if we did, presumably women would be conscripted as well.
LT Golightly was correct 29 years ago. And it is incomprehensible that he is forced to resign today for published thoughts all those years ago. But such is the new orthodoxy.
Women do not belong in the military. I spent 20 years in the Service & can say this unequivocally. The sexual component to unit dynamics destroys more than it adds. Units never have all their members, distrust is rampit. Worst, young people are put into situations in which morals and marriages are potentially compromised.
How ridiculous. God made the woman specifically to be an help meet for the man {Genesis 2:18}. This is within the context of marriage, of course.
Women were not made to fight wars. It seems to me that a man would be greatly blessed if able to return from battle to a wife and children who missed him, prayed for him, and welcomed him home.
