China approves contentious Hong Kong national security law
China on Tuesday approved a contentious national security law that will allow authorities to crack down on subversive and secessionist activity in Hong Kong, a move many see as Beijing's boldest yet to erase the legal firewall between the semi-autonomous territory and the mainland's authoritarian Communist Party system.

President Xi Jinping signed a presidential order promulgating the law after it was approved by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the official Xinhua News Agency said. It will be added to the Basic Law, Hong Kong's constitution. ...

About one third of Hong Kong citizens, also hold a kind of very limited British passport, called British Overseas citizenship, which is a hangover from the days when the British ruled the colony up to 1997, when it was handed over by treaty to China. It gives them no right of residence in Britain, though I think they can visit Britain without a visa, however.

As China has broken her side of the “One Nation, Two Systems” agreement by finally imposing its full blown direct Communist rule on Hong Kong, our PM has now infuriated the Chinese Communists by offering all British Overseas citizens in Hong Kong, the right to British residence, and eventually full British citizenship, after using the residence for a number of years.

I would think that any who wishes to take advantage of this needs to leave now, as I suspect that Communist China will bring in their own security police, customs and immigration, also slapping an exit visa requirement on the Hong Kong citizens and basically forbidding most of them to leave. The churches also need to get ready for the persecution the Chinese Communist authorities have already inflicted on the mainland.

Pay no attention to the language used in the article. The subversives are the mainland CCP creeps rebelling against the government and people of Hong Kong. It was as predictable as the sunrise. The new security law is a means to the foreordained end. I hope many will leave, while they still can. Chicomms, like all Communists, build walls and use guns to keep their workers inside the workers paradise. Why the criminal enterprise known as Communism is treated as though it were a valid system if governance has always been a question.

Good for Britain and others❗👍

The central government's passage of the security law has triggered concern from the territory's former colonial ruler, Britain, and other countries.

Britain announced on Wednesday that it is extending residency rights for up to 3 million Hong Kongers eligible for British National Overseas passports..? — stressing that it would uphold its historic duty to its former colony.

Those eligible will be able to live and work in the UK for five years before applying for settled status and then again for citizenship.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian ....He condemned the move, saying that before the return of Hong Kong to China, Britain had made a commitment not to grant BNO holders the right of abode in the UK.

"All Hong Kong compatriots, including those holding British National Overseas passports, are Chinese citizens," Mr Zhao said.

"The British have violated their own commitment by now allowing BNO passport holders the option of staying and naturalising in the UK."

Yes brother, I pray the Lord will protect and provide for all those that belong to Him. And if He permits His children to suffer loss, then I pray He gives them the grace to be salt and light to this lost and fallen world. Testifying of his love, sovereignty, and justice in spite of what they are experiencing.

Amen brother!

Glad for that good news, Brother John. Still, my prayer is that our sovereign Lord is at work, changing hearts and bringing many to Himself, both in HK and the mainland PRC.

Quiet Brother, I just happened to glance over this story this morning, and I believe the British gov is doing all it can to make an easy passage for anyone in Hong Kong to depart. It seems the best thing to do, because if they rebel, it will only end in tears. China obviously has its plan, and will implement it, even if it costs greatly on both sides.

Grateful for that half of the population who have the ability to emigrate with a UK passport, Brother John.

One never knows what the Lord will do, and the estimates of those who believe in Christ within the PRC usually are stated to be very large numbers. More grateful that the Lord's will is done. Still, my plea is for those Brothers- and sisters-in-Christ who are being persecuted.

Are there any protests outside of Chinese Embassies and Consulates? If Black lives matter, then Hong Kong lives ought to matter too.

We sure did, Quiet Brother.

The UK has been very gracious in offering three million HK people a place back home if they wish it. I do not know how the numbers crunch, but it is a nice gesture. Of course it means upheaval, but it may be one way out.
