Lock your cars! Vehicle theft spikes in COVID-19 pandemic
The coronavirus hasn’t been kind to car owners.

With more people than ever staying home to lessen the spread of COVID-19, their sedans, pickup trucks and SUVs are parked unattended on the streets, making them easy targets for opportunistic thieves.

Despite silent streets and nearly nonexistent traffic, vehicle larcenies shot up 63% in New York and nearly 17% in Los Angeles from Jan. 1 through mid-May, compared with the same period last year.

The problem we have here, Brother John, is what you have described. The bias read into these documents would somehow make the Founders and Framers to be proto-Marxists, when that was by no means near the truth. A legal concept supposedly used is called "original intent." What did the Framers or Congress in working through the Bill of Rights think the words meant when they wrote the Bill and passed the law? It then becomes a debate over history. Who controls history controls the present and future, so the Marxists say. And they have a lot of influence over how history is viewed today.

They do the same with the Bible, reading in supposed justification for all sorts of unbiblical and ungodly sin. Nothing but rubbish, foolish thinking. Wisdom seeks the Lord's meaning, not man's.

Thank you Quiet Brother,

I was just reading through your post and thinking it was similar to what happens with a paraphrased Bible - work out what the original writers were trying to express. And then you made that same comment, second paragraph. At least I think you did.

No, on second thoughts you didn't. You are talking about wresting scripture to justify ungodly practices.

Its easy to sit back a claim the prroblem that black people have its pathetic.and shamefull. Like christian cooper and G Floyd. The greater evils of whites can be summed up as all have sinned! No race is better than another. We all have problems and need a Christ like MIND!

I guess a communist reading those words from the Constitution's Preamble would read something quite different from what was meant. It goes to show how important it is to be definite in legal documents.

Irony: the system of chattel slavery was in part justified on the grounds that blacks were incompetent to live without supervision. We have the same situation now, with an unemployable caste dependent on welfare benefits. The main difference is, no force is required to keep them this way.

Good question. From all I have been able to comprehend and synthesize, I would say the Progressive goal is to eliminate sin and suffering from the world by material means: No disease, no hunger, no hatred, no drudgery, no inequality, no war, no punishment since man, as a good if imperfect being, doesn't deserve punishment or need redemption as his problem is external or environmental, not internal and spiritual. Heaven can be realized in this life, not the hereafter.
It is ironic that corporate capitalism, supposedly a conservative faction opposed to leftism, has actually fed this Progressive fantasy in its incessant promises of happiness through technology. As Edward Bernays might say, modern business sells dreams, not merely products like Jesus's family.
Thanks Neil, so they seek the impossible, from a faulty premise concerning the man.

Amen, Mike! That song seems to turn up as a theme at socialistic and global meetings. It says a lot, for instance, that the Olympics include it during every opening ceremony.

Psalm 2 applies quite well.

Many thanks to Neil, Remo and Mike for your comments. I wonder Neil, if your Progressives hate America so much, what is their desire upon it?

I do believe that there is a difference between countries, and a difference between ages in different countries.

For example, if you take the Isle of Lewis Revival in Scotland about 70 years ago, you will see that the Presence of God had a very serious effect on the lives of the people there, whether they were truly Christian or not. And this lasted for some decades after the revival concluded. During the revival, the preaching flowed like a river in torrent, and the Presence of God did the rest. Basically, it made the people serious about God, and created a fear of disobeying him. And you cannot recreate that whenever you like.

This has occurred many times throughout church history, when God came down and made himself known among men and communities. During those days, men were serious about God and God's word; they became God-fearing.

But what happens when God does not come in that sort of a dramatic way, but says in effect, "You have the word, and the word is sufficient for you?"

Because of a lack of faith in his word, decline comes, along with worldliness and ungodliness. This is called decadence.

John, it may be that you tend to make it about the US as a separate entity, somehow different than the rest of the world. It is when others see this and respond, that you then add your own country or the countries of others. I sense you have no real thought that we are somehow worse than others, for all have sinned.... We're just less experienced at it than you of the U.K.

Jews can tell jokes about Jews, but Gentiles cannot without being called bigoted.

What conservative and Progressive Americans have in common is, they do not see other countries very often or long and as a result, tend to be extreme in either loving their own country too much (conservatives), or hating it too much (Progressives).

E.g., while a teen I was an Anglophile (too much BBC?), but got over it and now see that other cultures can be both infuriating and admirable, just as Israelites were sometimes godly, but other times wicked. When I met European young people before, I was surprised at how acquainted they were with their neighbor countries. This gave them a more balanced perspective, I think.

Americans are strange people. Where I live, folks often park cars outside so they can store their junk in the garage. Even our neighbor, who has a 3-car garage, still parks one vehicle outside. This, plus the many carports and proximity to Mexico, might explain the high car-theft rate in Tucson.

Homes built before the 1960s or so usually had garages in the back of the property, like the carriage-houses of old. Since then, they've been in front, but why, if they're going to use it as a storage-shed anyway?
