Bigamy is no longer a felony in Utah
A law effectively decriminalizing bigamy, when two people marry while at least one of them is already legally married, is now in effect in Utah.

For decades, bigamy was a third-degree felony, legally punishable by up to five years in prison and up to a $5,000 fine. The new law makes it an infraction, putting the offense on par with getting a traffic ticket.

The bill was signed into law by Gov. Gary Herbert in March and took effect on Tuesday.

Polygamy has been practiced in Utah by certain religious groups since before it became a state and continues to persist to this day. ...

The Mormons are a cult
There is a boatload of falsehood in Mormon doctrine, to the point that it is no more Christian than Communist regimes are democratic republics, but just the same, labeling it a "cult" is still an Abusive Ad Hominem that communicates nothing except dislike. For one thing, there is much more lay participation than in, say, David Koresh-style cults, or for that matter, in many Fundamental Baptist churches.

Let's call it a counterfeit church instead; it only has a superficial, deceptive veneer of Christianity.

Leviticus 18

     18. Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her—The original is rendered in the Margin, "neither shalt thou take one wife to another to vex her," and two different and opposite interpretations have been put upon this passage. The marginal construction involves an express prohibition of polygamy; and, indeed, there can be no doubt that the practice of having more wives than one is directly contrary to the divine will. It was prohibited by the original law of marriage, and no evidence of its lawfulness under the Levitical code can be discovered, although Moses—from "the hardness of their hearts" [Matthew 19:8 Mark 10:5] —tolerated it in the people of a rude and early age....

"On December 13, 2013, a federal judge, spurred by the American Civil Liberties Union and other groups, struck down the parts of Utah's bigamy law that criminalized cohabitation, while also acknowledging that the state may still enforce bans on having multiple marriage licenses" ✔ (Legality of polygamy in the United States)

✔They couldn't be divorced because they weren't married in the first place❗

It's only complicated for the non-Christian, Frank.

No doubt many of these wives are underage, especially in the case of the Mormons, one would handle it like any other child abuse case.
In most of these cases, the women haven’t had a choice in the matter. And in many of these cultures, virginity is something that is taken seriously. IOW, they may not have another chance at having a family.

And Mohammed was a pedophile and so was Joseph Smith.

My only point was to show this issue is more complicated than most people realize.

I don’t think he should divorce those wives he just shouldn’t seek more now that he’s saved.

Easton said: Christianity has restored the sacred institution of marriage to its original character, and concubinage is ranked with the sins of fornication and adultery ( Matt. 19:5-9 ; 1 Cor. 7:2 ).

So, if polygamy is the same as adultery and fornication, Easton would say the missionary would tell them they cannot be baptized until they put away the other 4 wives.

Easton Bible Dictionary wrote:
Concubine In the Bible denotes a female conjugally united to a man, but in a relation inferior to that of a wife. Among the early Jews, from various causes, the difference between a wife and a concubine was less marked than it would be amongst us. The concubine was a wife of secondary rank. There are various laws recorded providing for their protection ( Ex. 21:7 ; Deut. 21:10-14 ), and setting limits to the relation they sustained to the household to which they belonged ( Gen. 21:14 ; 25:6 ). They had no authority in the family, nor could they share in the household government. The immediate cause of concubinage might be gathered from the conjugal histories of Abraham and Jacob ( Gen. 16 ; 30 ). But in process of time the custom of concubinage degenerated, and laws were made to restrain and regulate it ( Ex. 21:7-9 ). Christianity has restored the sacred institution of marriage to its original character, and concubinage is ranked with the sins of fornication and adultery ( Matt. 19:5-9 ; 1 Cor. 7:2 ).

I didn't read the article.

If a Muslim had 5 wives and became converted to Christ, would we teach him or even hint that he should divorce any of his wives. Now since few would argue against this Muslim analogy, then logically they can’t be saying it is necessarily a sin to have multiple wives; otherwise they would have to tell the Muslim to divorce 4 of his wives; probably the last 4? If he divorced the 4, what would happen to these women and their children?

I think it is significant that in many cultures of the world polygamy is the law of the land.

What if someone owned a bar and they came to Christ. If we think that drinking is sinful, wouldn't we tell them they should sell their bar?

I wrote a long meditation on polygamy if anyone wants it.

QC, I guarantee you the article from the Mormon Research Ministries, supports only one man and one woman type of relationship, but of course I wasn't going to quote the whole article. I hope what I did quote would made that fairly plain.

I've heard that one before, Jim. The reality of the Bible is that there is only one hero: the Triune God. Everyone else fails. The clear teaching of the Bible is for one man to be married to one woman. God didn't create Adam, Eve, and Shirley on Day 6. He just created Adam and Eve. The Apostle Paul clarifies this in his epistle. Just because someone else did it doesn't justify anyone else following suit.

Eric Johnson wrote:
Nobody doubts that polygamy played a vital role for the second half of the nineteenth century in the religion of Mormonism. Because the practice sounds unnatural, many Latter-day Saints are very protective of this teaching. A common tactic that is used is to utilize the Bible to show how the biblical saints married multiple women.
The issue of plural marriage remains a sensitive topic with most Mormons today. However, when the issue of 19th century polygamy is brought up, the reasons given by many Mormons do not coincide with the evidence. God never commanded polygamy in biblical times, so it cannot be said that 19th century Mormons who practiced polygamy were legitimized in their practice. And the fact that polygamy was practiced in biblical times by certain people does not give people in following generations a sanction to do the same. These reasons should no longer be used by thinking Latter-day Saints.
