71 infected with coronavirus at Sacramento church.
One church in Sacramento County is now the epicenter of a major outbreak of coronavirus, and frustrated county officials say church leaders are refusing to listen to their demands to stop fellowship meetings.

Seventy-one members of the Bethany Slavic Missionary Church near Rancho Cordova or people associated with congregation members have been afflicted with the virus, county officials say, making this one of the larger outbreak clusters in the country. One parishioner has died, officials said, and the pastor is sick.

Sacramento health officials say they have made several attempts via phone and in person this week to talk to church leaders, but have been rebuffed. The cases involve residents of Yolo and Placer counties as well. ...

Dave's been busy training an army of kangaroos. Apparently he has signed a deal with the WWW (World Wildlife Wars) where he will battling the likes of Dr. Tim and his surly goats and that Backwoods Farmer dude and his murder of crows. Should be exciting for us who are isolating ourselves.

God did not promise immunity, to His servants, from the tough times.

But He does promise His help, 'during' these times.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

Prov 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

2Cor 1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ."

Why would the Sacramento Bee want their names. If I or one of my colleagues give out names of students, we’re in trouble. If a hospital released the names of patients, the Sacramento bee and hospital get sued and federal charges are brought against both. HIPA laws do not permit the publishing but in this case the media wants to criminalize church members as if they were aids patients of the early 1980’s.

Excellent point, J4J. One ought to think that people who are physically ill would stay home from church.

We're homeschoolers but have been part of various kinds of co-op opportunities and field trip groups in the past. This year, we're mostly home. And this year, we've been much more well than in years past. The problem is that when tiny one has a sniffle or runny nose, the family of (insert number here) goes out anyway because most everyone else in the family is well and if they shut down out-of-the-house stuff for one with a sniffle, well, they'd never leave the house. Or one of the parents has an important responsibility. And then we're sick.

Interesting how the article paints the picture that they were still meeting. Well, (sadly,) it doesn’t matter what the real story is. What matters is that they have become an epicenter for contagion. It’ll be spun against the Church regardless.
This will be one of the media stories that incite persecution of Christians in the US.
(Of course, that is generally when we become the most effective—it is only under persecution that the early Church moves out of Jerusalem....)
Just saying.

from the article:

[The church’s public information office did not respond to requests to speak Friday, but its statement noted that the church closed March 18 and moved all meetings to online sessions.]

[Church administrator Viktor Lyulkin said Thursday that all services had stopped more than two weeks ago, and that he was not aware of any small gatherings among church members in homes.]

[Church member Daniel Nechitaylo said the congregation initially began limiting meetings to small groups of 10 or fewer, but as far as he knows, those meetings stopped as well as people became aware of the seriousness of the virus. “We took it really seriously,” he said.]

Seriously. Way to go.

Thank you, SA, for posting news items like this one as a reminder that the Lord's day of visitation is upon us. My prayer is that this would passover our lands in His great mercy. While we may be experiencing a famine in our lands, not of food or even he proclamation of the word of the Lord, but of Christian fellowship, thank you also for broadcasting the worship of a great many faithful churches from across our globe. There is no other comfort in this crisis other than Christ. May the Lord continue to use you to keep the faithful preaching and teaching of His word going forth as well as the encouragement of Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Grateful to the Lord for you all.
And yet...who will heed this warning and cry out for mercy?

Absolutely right! What is wrong with these people? Such rebellion will lead to lockdowns and gov't stripping us of our rights. Obey gov't orders, have online church and be an example for the world to see. Honestly...
