With Conferences Canceled, UMC Split and SBC Votes Wait for Next Year
Major conferences held by the two largest Protestant denominations in the country have joined the long list of events canceled by coronavirus.
Last week, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) called off its annual meeting scheduled for June 9-10, its first cancellation since World War II 75 years ago. The week before, the United Methodist Church (UMC) announced it would have to push back its quadrennial General Conference another year after its venue, the Minnesota Convention Center, canceled events through mid-May....
Good thing they canceled, I couldnât stomach another group prayer meeting asking forgiveness for things I wouldnât or couldnât do. Iâve never molested or used my privilege as being an old white guy, ( worked to death on a farm with undocumented workers, worked at a farm implement store , went to college ( mom , dad and I didnât bride anyone for my 2.2 gpa), and now Iâm teaching from home to lots grandmas and students the finer elements of finding google dot slap , âno not that grandma, yes, our google meet has been canceled because no one can find google meets on the blasted computerâ, ( Mr so and so, can you just send home work sheets, our computer an me donât do so wellâ)gnite grandma.
John of UK, the laity of both groups should decide as individuals it's a church they're going to upholds Christianity by standing by the Bible, for the Methodists it isn't biblical to have women preachers,

As far as the Southern Baptists are concerned one of their main leader said that on the last Presidential election

John 18:36-37 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world. Then Pilate said to him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the worldâto bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice. ---ESV
