Some churches refuse to close in wake of coronavirus
Some churches including Southern Baptist congregations in Kentucky say they have no plans to shutter amid the new coronavirus epidemic despite a request from Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear urging houses of worship to close temporarily Wednesday to help prevent community spread of the deadly virus.

“We know this is community spread and we need to get ahead of it,” Beshear said in a statement on the virus. “It is important for everybody out there to be calm, practice good hygiene and reduce the risk of exposure for themselves and others.”

Kentucky Baptist Convention Executive Director-Treasurer Todd Gray told Baptist Press that despite the governor’s request, many of their churches plan on staying open while taking steps to limit community spread of the virus. ...

The chances are pretty high that when restrictions and quarantines are over you will catch the virus. If you have a strong immune system and don’t have lots of other medical complications you should be fine. The main reason they’re doing all this is so they can be prepared when they open the country again (this virus is very contagious). P.S. wash your hands. Hand sanitizer doesn’t really do anything because viruses aren’t living. Plus you can try and strengthen your immune system.https://overview.mail.yahoo.com/?.src=iOS

God bless America!

Quiet Brother,

Here is the passage I am thinking of, which is the instruction for the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur), concerning how the High Priest is to enter the (veiled) Most Holy Place to make atonement upon the mercy seat (yes, a picture of Christ's work also).

Leviticus 16:2 KJV
(2)  And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

Leviticus 16:12-13 KJV
(12)  And he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from off the altar before the LORD, and his hands full of sweet incense beaten small, and bring it within the vail:
(13)  And he shall put the incense upon the fire before the LORD, that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony, that he die not:

I have always thought that the cloud (smoke from burning incense) was required, lest the High Priest get a clear view of God and die, for "I," God says, "will appear in the cloud on the mercy seat."

God-fearing is going out of fashion in these last days. Have we ever known it?

Sorry for the confusion, Brother. These are my thoughts on the OT sacrificial system as they relate to the newer reality of Christ & His sacrifice. They are influenced by a sermon series I heard and don't remember well years ago. I could be completely wrong about this...let me say that up front.

3 & 2c first. The burning altar stood btwn the place where Israel congregated & the most holy place. The sacrifices and their smoke provide a screen for their sinfulness which Jesus completed.

2 a. I'm probably very wrong here in my last. The smoke going up was more likely a picture of the prayers of the the Lord's people going up before Him as seen in Revelation. The blood itself is the sacrifice that was completed by Christ.

2. I believe the deal with the smoke was that the Lord cannot see us and allow us to live without the covering of the sacrifice. We have bold access because of that once and for all sacrifice. But before that Sacrifice, the old system provided a covering if you look at the geometry of the Tabernacle/Temple.
3. The fact that the Lord didn't apparently show up has nothing to do with His supposed unfaithfulness but the unfaithfulness of Israel.
Quiet Brother,

1. Yes, most sobering, awesome and wonderful. It is by his Spirit that he dwells within.

2. a) Eh? b) amen and amen c) Eh?

3. Eh?

There are three things that puzzle me bro:

2a, 2c, and 3.

If you have time and inclination, please enlarge on those statements for me. Thank you.

In times like this, there is nothing else to grasp onto but Jesus with the world's supports being stripped away. My prayer is that the Lord's effective call would go forth and bring to Himself a swelling number of people.

My very elderly mother, who is now in a nursing home in her 90’s, whom I am no longer allowed to visit, indefinitely, told me in times past of the wartime days during the 2nd World War, and in some ways, things were more dangerous. There was constant bombing, people had air raid shelters, blackout curtains, rationing, and obviously people were drafted into the military, or like my mother into reserved wartime occupations (in her case admin in a military aircraft factory).

Yet, despite all that, people could still move around, hotels, (if not requisitioned), restaurants, cafes, and public places were still open, people could still get together, even for things like sports and concerts as well as family occasions, schools still functioned, (even if evacuated to the country), despite removal of all road signs and bombing, public transport still ran, and most importantly churches were open and public worship took place.

This crisis seems far worse to me, and is basically an indefinite international quarantine of everybody, even the healthy, enforced by law, and even police and martial powers. We must indeed pray and seek the Lord at this time.

Agreed and thanks, Chris. I've been thinking my tinfoil hat has bad reception. Few are asking the right questions, or making determination by what they can see with their own eyes and based on data rather than emotions. One question is, if God has not given us a spirit of fear, who benefits by giving us a spirit of fear, and by reducing power, and diminishing love, and replacing a sound mind with one that is eager to obey rulings in the false hope of security?

Thank you Quiet Brother, and yes, you are quite right about the "social group"; this is what it is coming to.

I have been thinking about this for some time now, the promise of Jesus to be "in the midst" of his assembled people. It is quite revolutionary to believe this is truly the case.

I have known men who claimed that these sorts of things were symbolic. For example, on the Day of Atonement, God said for the High Priest to sprinkle the blood atonement on and before the mercy seat, on the ark of the covenant. But he was also to make a lot of smoke from a burning censor and fill the Most Holy Place with smoke, because God would appear on the ark between the cherubim, and without the cloud, the High Priest would see God and die. However, these men (and there are many of them) say that God himself did not appear, it was purely symbolic.

And so when they come to this promise of Jesus, they also disclaim what he said.

But the reality is, that the Son of God, God manifest in the flesh, the same Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified one, the resurrected one, the King of kings and Lord of lords, the Christ and Word of God, it is HE who is present, when believers meet together. He is there in person, "in the midst". Awesome!

Since my last comment, things have updated in Britain. PM Boris Johnson has still not yet commanded churches to close, and restaurants and non-food shops are still open as is internal public transport, but the advice to stay at home is getting stronger, and within a week, I think will have the force of law. All schools are to close on Friday indefinitely, with remote teaching except some formal schooling for children of health professionals.

Many churches and large denominations have closed down, with live-streaming available, including one very large Reformed church in London, (yes, Spurgeon’s old church, the one mentioned by Don’t Panic UK!!).

I personally think all churches should have stayed open, with strict precautions and provisions, until commanded by the state to close.

I do think sadly, this COVID-19 crisis has been hyped up deliberately by globalist forces for their own ends, and sets a dangerous precedent.

Let us pray for all those who will be cut off, our brothers and sisters in Italy, Spain, France and so on, and now Denmark, which has passed a draconian measure in its Parliament of virtual martial law, lasting until March 2021. Very dangerous!!

It looks like a few are missing the point. Were 2 or 3 are gathered in His name He’ll be there. My church closed down for now I personally don’t agree with it. I think if you’re scared of the virus don’t go but for those that aren’t go. My point is you can still worship God even without a church building. I’m sure most of y’all already knew this but just a good reminder 😁 fear not brothers our God is the same God who delivered the Israelites over and over

Dr.Tim, sorry I don’t trust church leaders whose eye is on the collection plate and not the welfare of the people.
Most in my community have complied, but there are a certain group who have not, and are so brash as to wear their side iron in open view on the pulpit and pew.👎

Two points, Carol. First of all, as far as I know, no state has ordered churches to close. Ours certainly has not. They have recommended certain voluntary restrictions, but they have not ordered it, so the churches that continue to meet are not in “civil disobedience.” They are exercising their rights under the Constitution.
Secondly, I think we should go back and read the First Amendment. Remember that “no law” clause? I understand that to mean exactly what the Founding Fathers meant, viz., NO law. Period. Government cannot legally pass any law restricting the free exercise of religion, even if that means some folks MIGHT get sick. I think the framers of the Constitution had enough wisdom to trust church leaders, as a whole, to make decisions in the best interests of their flocks. I think we can safely do the same.

You guys are the very definition of legalists.
You call us "shameful", and "horrible witness" for not going to church? In Italy 100's die everyday, Iran can't stop burying their dead, and not just the old, but young doctors and nurses on the front lines who received a high viral load. There's so much evidence that this has HIV properties, and high re-infection rates. Besides how old is your pastor? How old are the majority of pastors? They must be high up in age, prime target for this curse.
