Dobson on Super Bowl sleaze: 'Have we lost our minds?'
"On Sunday, Fox Sports and the NFL offered up a sexual smorgasbord, and the halftime show was the main course," said Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family, the James Dobson Family Institute and Family Talk.
"In the last two days, I've seen outrage from a few select commentators and Christians. But overwhelmingly, I've witnessed the Super Bowl shoulder shrug. Responses range from the timid justification, 'it wasn't that bad,' to the defiant proclamation, 'it's a celebration of Latino culture,'" he wrote.
"Let me be clear: pole dancing, sex simulation, and crotch shots are not a celebration of Latino culture; they are a celebration of our hypersexualized culture. I regret the need to be so graphic, but have we collectively lost our minds? Objectifying women—whether they willingly participate or not—is wrong. Failing to oppose such an affront to women is equally blameworthy."...
What disturbs me is pastors(?) giving mention from the pulpit sports events, players, the plays, encouraging member to wear their teams colors, and most of all dismissing early so as not to miss any of the game.
Ironically, the viewers don't get rich from any of this.
Dr Tim, like you and the poster from my hometown , Allie-Bama( such a southern gentleman) I do not agree with all Trump says ( don’t tell my hubby I said that)or Dr Dodson either because I know they have feet of clay and none will be perfected until we get to heaven. God’s Grace is the only thing we can depend on to get us there. And having someone like you to keep us from taking ourselves too seriously. And they have brought our country that I love back to some Christian values we lost in the eight years of Obama and for that I thank God and I thank you for your service to our country. My grandson has now come back from 4 years in Marines and another just got married and is now serving our country in Marines. He is a big boy and they will put him on the machine guns. He’s in a different group than the other one was..much tougher I think.
Dr. Rugh wrote: .... Turn on the Christian radio station and see if psychology dominates the programming. A local station ran two days of programming by James Dobson and Gary Collins, encouraging young people to go into the study of psychology. Their response to those who oppose the mixing of psychology and the Bible was, “Who is going to help people in future years if our young people don’t go study psychology?” .... “Uh, well, we feel there is a better program than John MacArthur’s Bible teaching,” they say. “O.K., but who are you going to replace J. Vernon McGee with?” Tune in and listen to the programs that have replaced the Bible teaching that has been taken off. Suddenly there is no room in the schedule for Bible study, but there is room for James Dobson three times a day. There is room for Minirith and Meier. There is room for this family program and that family program.
The isolation has begun to set in. The influence of psychology will continue to be a battle for the Church of Jesus Christ. It will not go away....
So good to hear from you, Dolores. I don’t agree with everything that Dr. Dobson or Franklin Graham or Donald Trump says or does, but I do believe they are out to try to save America, and not to destroy it. I served 22 years in the armed forces, and believe it or not some military people are not perfect. Some swear and belch and have stinky feet, but by George they’re defending America, and I appreciate that in spite of their faults. Ain’t it about time we quit taking potshots at people who are trying to help us, even if they don’t do it as flawlessly as we would like?
I agree Dolores, we need to remember not to look for ways to disagree with everyone... because of the sinful world we live in, we can all read something in Gods inspired, Holy Word and come to different conclusions. Although I don’t watch football (for many reasons!) I do appreciate Godly men coming out and speaking against, at least the grossly sinful aspect of it.
I may not agree with everything that Dr. Dobson says, he is doing a good work here and we must pray that God would continue to use him to bring Him Glory.
I do agree with Dr.Dobson and those that disagree are trying to kill the messager because they don’t like the message just like they did in the days of the prophets of God who brought messages dealing with their sins and worship of idols and coming judgement. Threw Jeremiah in a pit and I do believe some on here would love to throw me in one as well lol!!
Please tell us one thing Dr. Dobson has said or done that was “sleazy,” Jim. Or is he sleazy just because you say he’s sleazy just like President Trump is racist just because you say he is racist?
