Tired Nation: Americans Now Averaging Less Than 6 Hours Of Sleep Per Night
As the years press forward, sleep is becoming a frustratingly harder challenge for many Americans. That’s the main finding of a recent survey consisting of 2,000 adults that asked about sleeping habits, satisfaction, and frequency.

Perhaps the most stunning result of all is the drop in total average sleep time for Americans. It seems logging six hours is a struggle for many. Consider this finding: In 2018, the average respondent reported about six hours and 17 minutes of sleep per night. By 2019, however, that average shrunk to only five-and-a-half hours each night. If the trend continues, 2020 will be even worse for many in search of some shuteye. ...

Speaking of which, “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, And night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language Where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them He has set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoices like a strong man to run its race. Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit to the other end; And there is nothing hidden from its heat. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭19:1-11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Conclusion is that too little sleep is bad and too much is bad. Rest well tonight, and may the Lord refresh your minds and strengthen your bodies, brothers and sisters!

Jesus said the following:
“I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.”
‭‭John‬ ‭9:4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Now that we have electricity to run huge lights we think that we can do regular work at night. It is possible with artificial light but still difficult as our human nature is contrary to it. We usually avoid working at night unless it’s an emergency or a vital task that shouldn’t go undone. We don’t usually mow the lawn at midnight even if we lived far away from neighbors or if they were already gone deaf.

Nighttime is ideal for certain tasks like clandestine military operations, hunting nocturnal species as mentioned already, or practical astronomy for that matter.

Prov 3:19 The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens. 20 By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew. 21 My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
= V:24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet."

Psalm 127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep."

Prov 20:13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread."

Prov 6:10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man."

Well, one solution is to stop allowing comments to be added to all news stories here. That would save time for the posters that they can use to sleep and the readers, too.
re: famous people not sleeping much
1. President Donald Trump sleeps less than 5 hours a night and seems to be doing well.
2. Winston Churchill slept little

Dr. Tim you 'un is forgetting the goodest of 'em all - coon 'n beans with a side of goat buttered sweet 'taters! Shuteye's a mighty fine thing, but it ain't worth goin' an' sacrificin' a possum hunt for the sakes of some sleep.

Junk statistics. 1st, MattressFirm™ commissioned the study, so researchers had a Conflict of Interest. 2nd, what's normal? I recall Puritan Richard Baxter claiming he needed only 4 hrs sleep, yet the man was hugely productive. Napoleon also got about that much.

Not me...

I believe at least 8 hours of sleep is very important to having a successful, clearly thought out day. Many long term health effects can come from a lack of sleep over a long term period...

Being well rested has made me have much more successful days, and be able to avoid bad decisions...

Good food is just as important, as it gives your body a excellent way to combat all of the stress we experience. Opposum steak with Kinfolk Sauce is the best way to start a day...
