Holiday blessings were spread throughout one Louisiana town thanks to some unlikely help.

The Diocese of Lafayette enlisted a crop duster to spray holy water on the city of Lafayette and nearby farms, according to a Facebook post from the church.

Oh how the earth yearns for water, but what have we done with it? We have gone and thrown it away! We have called it holy even though God hath not uttered a single word on whether it doth was or not. We are a fallen world and we prove that time and time again. God is the living water and will never run dry. Why must we throw away the water God doth give us? Is not salvation more important than watering plants?

The major crops of the area are rice, sugar cane, and crawfish. I have kin in that area. An extra sprinkle wouldn't help them much either.

Is there any possible justification for this publicity stunt? It seems about as effective as sprinkling babies & declaring them saved without professing saving faith (keep in mind, folks, I'm a Presbyterian and hold to infant baptism which isn't effective until those baptized have a true profession of faith). Do they think they made people better or holier?

If the water fell on any tobacco plants, which would be made into cigarettes, they would be called, "Holy Smokes"!

Ex-Catholic Journal wrote:
Definition:   Water that has been specially blessed to provide spiritual benefits to those who use it. Holy Water is placed in fonts located at the entrances of a Catholic Church. Upon entering, people are encouraged to dip their fingers into the holy water and to make the sign of the cross. Both the water and the sign of the cross are sacramentals which convey the blessed intercession of the Church. Sacramentals can remit the punishment for venial sins, and can shorten time spent in purgatory. The water may also be taken home for personal use.

Discussion: Jesus warns of the worthless ceremonial washing traditions of the Pharisees (Lk. 11:39). Such traditions are externals that convey no spiritual benefit, but rather deceive their practitioners (Col. 2:8). The Catholic Church binds its adherents by offering salvation on the installment plan, available through false mediation and superstition.

from, "holy water"

Or does the addition of the canned fish contaminate the water so that it's wholly mackerel?

I didn't read the article, but one might be concerned about motive and exactly what they hoped to gain.

If you put canned fish in the holy water, would that make holy mackerel?
