Baptist battles
BETWEEN THE LATE 1970s AND EARLY ’90s, a concerted effort by church leaders transformed the leadership of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) from largely theologically liberal—for example, denying the inerrancy of the Bible and a literal interpretation of some of Jesus’ miracles—to conservative. With conservative trustees, the convention’s six seminaries shifted back toward historic Baptist doctrine. In 2000, Southern Baptists adopted a conservative revision of their doctrinal statement, the Baptist Faith and Message.

Even though the Southern Baptist Convention embraced conservative theology nearly 20 years ago, not all Baptist colleges followed suit.

Jeremiah Greever, a 2012 alumnus, said that as he prepared to graduate, his academic adviser told him he would never recommend students attend the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (the denomination’s flagship seminary) because it was a ...

Well well! I didn't know the Baptists had fallen into the satanic trap of UNBiblical Liberalism back then.

I'm glad the Lord has rescued them from such evil depravity and heresy.

Liberalism is infected by a pernicious rejection of the Word of God. That's the problem we see in the Anglican fallacy.
This sinful rejection is further polluted by blindness to sin.

I wouldn't trust *any* theological seminary. The Waldensians managed to do without this Roman Catholic innovation.

Why do I say this? The natural goal of all human organizations is self-preservation (cover up scandals, do anything to keep the money coming) and esp. today, self-glorification ("Aren't we wonderful" propaganda). I'm convinced that ostensibly "Christian" ones are no different. It was this "guild" mindset that Jesus faced with Jewish sects of the day, who feared He would undermine their power. And the RCC is the ultimate church form of this.

By contrast, the goal for all Christians is God's glory.

I wouldn’t hold Southern Theological Seminary in too high regard- they’ll march in women pastors and kick out old dispensationists and fundamentalist and calm it in keeping with the Bible teaching.

Thanks for posting this historical item. Church history is one thing that is very often neglected today. As I said in my comment about new books, if we owned a Christian bookstore and a very large basement or warehouse, we could keep every book that has been promoted over the years and find patterns that would be interesting to follow.
