Botham Jean’s brother forgives Amber Guyger, implores her to ‘give your life to Christ’
The brother of Botham Jean, who was shot and killed by former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, publicly forgave her and asked to hug her in court.

In an emotional scene during the impact statements made in court, Brandt Jean said he forgave Guyger, if she is "truly sorry," saying, “I know if you go to God and ask Him, He will forgive you.”

“I am speaking for myself,” said Brandt to Guyger, “but I love you, just like anyone else. And I'm not going to say I hope you rot and die, just like my brother did.”

“I personally want the best for you,” he added, saying his late brother, Botham, would also want the best for Guyger, which would include her giving her "life to Christ.” ...

This is a really tragic case. I read about this some time ago, but have forgotten the circumstances, except that somehow this police officer stumbled into her neighbour’s apartment late at night somehow thinking it was her own, and shot the lawful owner thinking that he was an intruder!!

It does make me question how she became a police officer. In Britain most police officers are unarmed, and the few that are, must hand in their weapons at the police station when they go off duty.

As a former now disgraced police officer means that she for a very uncomfortable life in gaol. God bless that young man, the victim’s brother who forgave her and embraced her in court, and may she indeed heed his call to yield her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the only real solution for her, and may she fully embrace it and be born again, even there in the prison cell!!

Being a police officer is very difficult in Dallas, as in any large metropolitan area. But If the room was dark, she should have turned on the lights.
The problem is training, lights on , identify yourself, and wait for a response. But a white female officer is already in a precarious situation. She’s not accepted at her place of work, has to prove her way, and apparently was with a partner who thought everything inappropriate, was for the common good. Sorry for the loss of this young man. Sin will find you out.

But, are you taking intentionality into account?

Check out the Unz Review website for a story about the 2 black teens who killed a 59-yr old white guy, Lions Club member, who was at the fair in Frederick, Maryland, when it was being closed down and packed up.
You will find other cases there of black on white violence where the punishment does not fit the crime.

She was too busy “sexting” her boyfriend to notice she was in the wrong apartment.
An accident? Eh—tragic and unfortunate but not quite what I would call an accident.
But on the other hand, first degree murder? I don’t think so. That usually requires intent to commit a crime. (i.e. burglary) She wasn’t intending to break in but ended up in the wrong place.
I can see why the lighter sentence, but not certain I agree with it. Glad I wasn’t on the jury.
Just saying.

Earlier this week, a jury found Guyger guilty of murder in the first-degree for fatally shooting Botham Jean last year when she entered his apartment. On Wednesday, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison with the possibility of parole after five years.

Well, I haven’t followed this case, so I clearly don’t know the specifics. But, if 1st degree murder means 1st degree, then how in the world did she only get 10 years with possibility of parole after 5?

In the article someone asked what the sentence would be if the victim had broken into her apartment and killed her? That is a very reasonable question. My guess is life without parole or death?

It was a kind gesture on his part, not that many people would be able to do that.

I am curious just how much did Botham Jean’s apartment look like Amber Guyger's? I would think that was in the jury's mind also.
