Socialism: For Your Benefit — or Theirs?
Juncker was not alone in praising Marx. Not surprisingly, the Web pages and Twitter accounts of the Democratic Socialists of America — the home base of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez — erupted in Happy Birthday cheers for the revolutionary theorist. The New York Times published an op-ed with the headline “Happy Birthday, Karl Marx. You Were Right!” by Professor Jason Barker, author of Marx Returns.

Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and a host of leftist politicos, together with an army of Marxist professors and socialist advocates in the “mainstream” media, have been singing hosannas to Saint Marx from the same sheet music.

What are they and millions of others cheering about? They claim Marx popularized an economic and political structure that could ensure fairness and goodness in the world: socialism

We offer as Exhibit A the online magazine Teen Vogue, a sister publication of ...

You have a good perspective, YIA. Sounds familarly like

Behold then, what I have seen good, that it is comely to eat, and to drink, and to take pleasure in all his labor, wherein he travaileth under the sun, the whole number of the days of his life, which God giveth him: for this is his portion. Also to every man to whom God hath given riches and treasures, and giveth him power to eat thereof, and to take his part, and to enjoy his labor: this is the gifts of God. - Ecclesiastes 5:17-18

The problems with socialism are that it replaces God with the state and others take pleasure in the results of the labor of the man described above instead of the man himself.

When has this not been the case? Ever since the post-Civil War era at least, America, because of its freedom and market size, has been fertile ground for ruthless, crazy-successful corporations who gain hegemony but eventually "fall from grace" either from competitive pressure, political/legal reaction, or simply management rot. Expecting corruptible officials to save the public from these creatures is unrealistic (how many Catos did Rome have?); instead, we should look to ourselves, put our thinking-caps on, and not allow our consent to be "engineered" by Bernays-style propaganda (q.v.). To paraphrase a prison proverb: "How do you know an advertiser is lying? His mouth is open."

Every dog has its day. But as Lincoln said (perhaps thinking of Ecclesiastes), "This too will pass." The world's not gonna get perfect anytime soon.

They already have control of the economy, at least in N.America, lobbying is legalized bribing.

How many choices do you have in choosing Internet companies and phone? There's no competition, people are stuck with abusing price schemes, and locked European, Asian phones. Cord cutting from abusive cable companies has been made almost impossible with rising Internet costs, roaming internationally is super abusive, whereas it's pennies around the world.

Monopolies in medicine and research already artificially raise and lower prices to sell you whatever they want you to take

Silicon valley, Hollywood, own the economy. Disney owns the propaganda machine, google owns all your info from what you watch on YouTube, to your location on google maps, to your emails, and every website you visit with their advertisement system.

Amazon has killed off so many stores big or small with their free and cheap delivery with amazon prime, that many years after, they increased to absurd levels, but there is no competition anymore.

YiA says....
"Either the scales shift to the government having all the power as in socialism, or they shift to the corporations as in capitalism."

If this was true, I can assure that it's better to have a distant, powerless corporation holding the economy in their grip (like Amazon may do someday), than have an all powerful, very close and personal government peeking over your back...

I personally haven't seen capitalism goes to the lengths your claiming unless they are an unintelligent careless society...

Is it safe to say that no economic system will ever work, and each one will eventually lead to slavery of the poor?

Either the scales shift to the government having all the power as in socialism, or they shift to the corporations as in capitalism.

Clearly without righteousness, men's hearts like a bottomless barrel will always want more power and money, which leads to corrupt leadership.

We are due for a socialist movement in the US, so we can join our more culturally sophisticated Western nations. They have all had proper labor movements while we have not. Sure President Lyndon Johnson and FDR developed public programs (now called entitlements) to help working (mostly white) Americans subsidize: mortgages, pensions, healthcare, elderly care, adequate schooling, etc. The Neo Liberal capitalist revolution brought on by Reagan, Clinton, Bush, and Obama only works well for to top 4%. This economic system barely works well for younger citizens who did not grow up with those luxurious subsidies that baby boomers take for granted. I was born in the early 80s, have two graduate degrees, .... I prey and hope I can have a long term career/job stability with retirement. I can't afford children as I chose education and my career instead, so I settle for a comfortable retirement. Most Western nations have socialist democratic systems and they do not resemble Cuba or Russia. Visit Europe as evidence. Social Democracy is only scary to those who benefitted from good old days of government subsidization and fear change.

Poverty for all, equality for none...

That is the real battle cry for the socialist. When I here people like Bernie Sanders talk about the "top one percent" having more wealth than the all the rest", I think so what? They earned it. ..

Every time Bernie Sanders goes to Amazon to buy a sustainably traded chocolate bar, he is supporting the pocket of Jeff Bezos. Bezos didn't get his money illegally, so why should he be punished with a 70% income tax for making money?...

Once again this goes down to a guise with a different motive. Bernie Sanders knows more than anyone else that communist countries all have their own "top one percent", the only difference is that if your not in the one percent, you are in poverty.

Chinese president Xi, Kim Jung un, Stalin, and Castro all ruled a country of poor people, while they basked in the wealth of their subjects money. And if anyone thinks that America will be any different, they deserve to go through the misery's of a socialist country, cause I'll tell you what if you go through it, your a capitalist once you get out...

Groucho, Harpo and Chico Marx made more sense than Karl. Socialism has never, ever, ever, ever worked anywhere it’s been tried, and it is never, ever, ever, ever going to work anywhere it’s tried.
