New York City to repeal ban on gay 'conversion therapy'
The New York city council is planning to repeal a two-year-old ban on ‚Äúgay conversion therapy‚ÄĚ to avoid a costly uphill legal fight.
The New York Times reports that the city‚Äôs openly gay Council Speaker Corey Johnson introduced a bill on Thursday to repeal a measure passed in 2017 banning the sale of ‚Äúservices intended to change a person‚Äôs sexual orientation or gender identity.‚ÄĚ
With a conservative-leaning U.S. Supreme Court makeup, Johnson doesn’t seem to want the law to be tested in the legal system. He vowed that the council would act quickly to repeal the law....
Deepti Hajela wrote: .... ...Alliance Senior Counsel Roger Brooks said that if the repeal goes through, the organization would ‚Äúcommend the move.‚ÄĚ
He called the law ‚Äúreally quite extreme‚ÄĚ and pushed back against the idea that it was vulnerable only because of a more conservative Supreme Court. ‚ÄúIt‚Äôs not so much a political issue as well-established First Amendment law,‚ÄĚ he said.
A New York state ban that applies only to minors would still be in effect. [ ]
excerpt from, "Here's Why New York City Is Now Trying to Repeal Its Ban on 'Gay Conversion Therapy' "
A very succinct article! The ban needs to be lifted on conversion therapy for minors.
Good. The diabolical thing is that community, and their supporters, have been driving hard for years, and focusing on this nation's children on their own version of conversion therapy; to convert every single child they can confuse in order to increase their numbers and future voice. They can convert, by any means necessary, and to protect their efforts, outlaw any efforts to oppose, or reverse the damage they've done. How convenient for them to be able to make up new laws, on the fly, to give them carte blanche control, by outlawing any opposition, and even defining any attempt at reversing the damage, as a hate crime. Interesting days, as time begins to wrap up, and the sound of trumpets swiftly approaches.
While this is seemingly good news, it is likely a political trick to spur voting for the Progressive candidates. Doesn't New York State ban this so-called "conversion therapy" anyway? They all but ban babies at the state level. How would they not have insistuted a ban on therapy/evangelism toward the LGBT+ community?
