Believers Say They Don’t Need Others for Discipleship?
Over the past decade, more believers are heeding the scriptural call to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior”—but they’re often doing discipleship on their own.

A wide-ranging survey by LifeWay Research found that while US Christians had made improvements in areas like reading their Bibles daily, prioritizing obedience to Christ, and avoiding temptation, their connections with fellow Christians have weakened.

Hispanic and African American churchgoers may represent an exception to the overall trend, showing even greater progress in discipleship while deepening community ties.

The results came from this year’s 2019 Discipleship Pathway Assessment, which tracks eight measures of belief and practice, and can be compared to a similar study LifeWay conducted in 2011. ...

Check out the link (in the little house symbol above) to the article in Outside magazine that talks about how good socializing is for our health. This is a secular publication, so anyone who does not attend a local church gathering is missing out on this vital health benefit.

And I thought I had commented on this story before, because something similar came up here on the News page a few weeks ago.
I pointed out that even secular people are noticing the value of the church as fellowship, which I found when I listened to the Econtalk podcast (link is in the little house symbol above this post).
Of course, we are dealing with a media that does not want to give any positive coverage of church-related activities.
Just ask yourself--does my local newspaper list any church services or have a 'religion' or faith column? A friend showed me one that even included the sermon titles.
The problem is also caused by the way Christians refer to the church--as a building you go to rather than the Body of Christ.

This is crazy! In my mind I’m screaming for a mentor in Christ! I am sick and tired of following Christ on my own! I know you have to ask for help from other believers God’s just not gonna bring it to you!
