Abortion support is the highest it's been in two decades
Support for legal abortion stands at its highest level in more than two decades according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, even as numerous states adopt restrictions that challenge the breadth of rights established by the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

The Post-ABC poll finds a 60 percent majority who say abortion should be legal in most or all cases, up from 55 percent in a 2013 Post-ABC poll, and tying the record high level of support from 1995. The latest survey finds 36 percent say abortion should be illegal in all or most cases, also tying a record low.

In 2013, a Post-ABC poll found 55 percent of Americans said abortion should be legal in all or most cases. The increase in support for legal abortion has increased in part due to large growth in support among independent women voters (up 16 points to 71 percent) and Democrats (up 12 points to 77 percent).

A 41 percent ...

Amen Dr Tim. The opinion poll in Sodom and Gomorrah didn't hold up to well.

If you want a society to have Christian values, the society has to be Christian.
The problem, Jim, is that we have this "precious message in earthen vessels." In other words, the Lord has every ability to work without us but, for some reason, chooses to very often work through human effort. We are to be salt and light in this world. To be salt and light, we must be in the world but not of the world.

And because the Lord has placed us Americans within a democratic republic, He has given us the authority to speak against and work against such things through the government.

Dr. MacArthur is a respected gentlemen, but I wouldn't take everything he says as Gospel truth. He probably doesn't. I don't even do that with everything I say!

Liberals and pseudo-conservatives don’t have a problem with government legislating immorality. It’s only when government tries to enforce morality that they kick and scream.

Those who are opposed to a moral society should not expect it to be one. Jim's false premise of "forcing morality" is ridiculous. Requiring civilized behavior is the duty of right government. Are there not laws against murder? The killing of preborn humans is murder. Is this difficult? Ignore barbarian behavior long enough, and your society will become barbarian. Jim wants Christians to stay inside the church-house doors. Crazies, Democrats, and athiests want it too. It's not a coincidence.

I went on to explain that we cannot force the ungodly to live by God’s standards. Nor is abortion the only or perhaps even the worst evil. Prostitutes and homosexuals destroy the lives of untold millions of young people; drug dealers, more millions than abortionists. And what about those psychiatrists and psychologists who have devastated lives for eternity, or the atheistic high school and university teachers who have corrupted the faith of millions more? Should we kill all such persons? I cannot find teaching or example in the entire Bible to indicate that Christians are to combat the world’s sins except with the gospel....

Now that's just it, Dr. Tim! There is only one opinion that matters anyway...and that's the Lord's!

If 99.99 percent of Americans support abortion, it is still murder, it is still wrong, it is still ungodly and wicked, it is still an abomination to God. I’ve checked the Bible from cover to cover, and I can’t find one instance where God ever conducted an opinion poll. Whether Americans endorse God’s word or attempt to nullify and ban it, the word of God will stand while the world is burning. Repent.

Jim Lincoln aside, DF has a good point. The results of a poll are often predicated by the survery instrument that is used to collect the data. And no one can necessarily trust those who want to forward a particular Progressive agenda, as they will do ANYTHING to forward that agenda. The minimum includes lying. In their minds, the ends justify the means.

However, the Lord Himself is in charge of the ends and holds us responsible for the means. So they are doubly guilty -- advocating and committing murder while doing anything possible ensure they can continue.

Attempting to compare the attempts to prohibit abortion with the attempts to prohibit alcoholic beverages is like trying to compare apples with oranges. Just because Prohibition was considered a failur doesn't make it a bad idea.

The US legislated the use of seat belts in cars, many states require helmets while on motorcycles, children are required by law to be educated, and many more laws and regulations are in place to protect and enhance life. Every state and the federal government has laws prohibiting murder of the post-born, in most cases, and providing for strict penalties. Even mistreating pets or livestock is punishable in many places under the criminal code. It's also against the law to steal and provide false witness in a court case, showing that morality has long been codefied and considered necessary for an orderly society.

But, abortion ends life and is even being encouraged in some states. It's oxymoronic.

Jim, you are a zealot, but as Dr. Tim said, not for the Lord. You are advocating a liberaterian approach to life - live and let live. Or in this case, "live and let die."

Life is worth protecting, even through the criminal code for pre-born and post-born people.

Interesting poll results. Makes you wonder what happened with that anti-abortion movie that came out this year? Wasn't that supposed to increase opposition to abortion?
Then, it also makes you think that the country is divided into 2 camps on this issue, and they do not talk to each other. There is no debate, no discussion, no meeting ground.
Then, it makes you wonder about how political parties have used this issue to further their own causes. Republicans know they can 'come out against abortion' and be assured they will get some votes. But they have to consider, they are also divorcing themselves from other votes.
Another thing that makes you wonder about this poll is the geography of it, and the age groups involved. I would be younger people support abortion--because it is the Back Door to a "Problem Pregnancy" Young men don't want to be saddled with the cost of the baby, and young men don't want to put up with the pain of pregnancy or the cost of raising a child. Sure, adoption is an obvious solution, but that involves some pain as well--giving up a child is no easy task.
It is no wonder that in many urbanized cities, there are numerous signs for DNA testing. Why is that? Who would get tested? What for? It's for young mothers who want to prove who a child's father is.

No Jim, as usual you are wrong. The issue of abortion is "primarily" about stopping a murder, not the moral character of those that are doing the murder.

In an age when apostasy is rife and Sodom and Gomorrah are expanding their population we must expect further corruptions and perversions.
Thus the murder of the unborn child is a direct attack upon God by this reprobate fallen world.

How long will God accept things as they are today?

The decline in size of the true Church is happening all around us.
We are in the end times, that we know! Will HIS Wrath continue or will the final solution be called soon?

Come Lord Jesus, Come Soon.

A Washington Post/ABC News poll, and a couple dollars will get you a cup of coffee

Jim/Lincoln, I take it since you promote the idea that morality is dangerous, then you are also promoting the notion that immorality is the safe way to go. If you are opposed to one, you must therefore be in favor of the opposite. That's good to know. It says a lot about your core beliefs, doesn't it?

John MacArthur wrote:
There is, however, today in Christianity in its evangelical element, an emphasis on another kind of effort. It is an effort to produce morality. And this is growing rapidly. I have through the years addressed the issue on a number of occasions but it seems as though it needs to be addressed again because the interest is only being heightened today.

There is a call to Christian to get involved in calling our nation to a higher level of morality, in engaging ourselves with all of our energy and all of our resources, all of our time and money in an effort politically, through the media, through pressure groups to change the moral character of our country. Many Christians are engaging themselves in this effort.

In the year 2000 I wrote a book called Why Government Can't Save You, it could have been....And what I tempted to say in that perhaps somewhat sarcastic title was if you're dealing with the issue of salvation, the government won't help. But I was really trying to say and did say in the book was that for Christians the mandate is not about some kind of cultural morality, the mandate is about salvation and the government plays no role....
