Evangelical churches, ministry groups see highest increase in giving since 2014
Evangelical churches and ministries saw an increase in giving in 2017, the highest increase since 2014, according to a new report by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.

ECFA-accredited organizations received approximately $13.3 billion in cash donations in 2017, a 5.9 percent increase compared to 2016, which contrasts with a 2.2 percent increase seen for 2015–2016 and 2014–2015, and the 6.1 percent increase reported between 2013–2014.

The 5.9 percent increase in giving to ECFA’s approximately 1,700 member organizations is also higher than the 3.5 percent average increase between 2007–2017.

ECFA President Dan Busby said in a statement released last week that he was “so pleased to see this increased support for Christ-centered churches and ministries.” ...

Hmmmm, it seems that since Jim’s quote turns out not only to be misleading (by implying that the decrease in those claiming charitable giving deductions meant there was less charitable giving ) but completely false (there was actually an increase in charitable giving) that we would see Jim come to the rescue and apologize for posting what turned out to be fallacious and deceitful material. But all we have so far is Jiminy Crickets. How about it Jimbo, you gonna come clean here?

Even AARP put out an article entitled

Higher Standard Deduction Means Fewer Taxpayers to Itemize

Remember it doubled. Less people itemizing deductions is not necessarily an indication of less charitable giving.

In fact charitable giving went up nearly 1%

Gotta stop believing liberal lies Jimbo, you have enough gray hairs as it is.

Don't wonder, Jim. If they cease to give because they lost a tax deduction, that's where their heart is. If givers give for the purpose of tax deduction, are they giving at all? If they are giving less but Christians are giving more as this news item says, what does this tell us? Your attempt at a sideways criticism of Trump's tax cut, which benefits most like myself who don't itemize anyway, comes off as weak.

I wonder which charities were hit by the tax plan?
Nicole Goodkind wrote:
As the president works to limit access to welfare programs in the United States by creating strict work requirements, lowering the poverty thresholding and purging food stamp rolls, Americans living below the poverty line may also find it harder to depend on private charity for help.

New data shows that Americans itemized $54 billion less in charitable donations this year, after the enactment of the Republican tax plan, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. At the time of the bill's signing, some economists predicted there would be a significant drop in donations, but not to this extent.

"The amount is just jaw-dropping," Michel Nilsen, vice president of communications and public policy at the Association of Fundraising Professionals, told MarketWatch. "This is a really significant drop. This to me is a sign that giving was hurt."

Is this based on a western world determination or world wide? A better economic outlook may be a contributing factor.
