UK court orders forced abortion for disabled woman
A British judge has authorized doctors to perform an abortion on a pregnant Catholic woman with developmental disabilities and a mood disorder, despite the objections of the woman’s mother and the woman herself. The woman is 22 weeks pregnant.
“I am acutely conscious of the fact that for the State to order a woman to have a termination where it appears that she doesn't want it is an immense intrusion,” said Justice Nathalie Lieven in her ruling in the Court of Protection, June 21.
“I have to operate in [her] best interests, not on society's views of termination,” Lieven explained, arguing that her decision is in the best interest of the woman.
The Court of Protection handles cases involving individuals judged to lack the mental capacity to make decisions for themselves....
I have learnt from another Christian website, that the grandmother of the baby in question and her lawyers stated that she could look after the baby, and they have appealed the decision, and three judges of the Court of Appeal held a very quick hearing, and ruled in her favour, and that of the grandchild in the womb. They overturned the biased judge’s ruling, and will give their reasons later.
This is good news, praise the Lord. The pregnancy was already quite far advanced.
This public Court of Protection deals with vulnerable adults who are incapable of looking after themselves, and do not have a recognised advocate or guardian, or where public authorities like doctors, social workers or other professionals have taken it into their heads to interfere, and challenge the guardian or advocate.
This court is notoriously secretive, has a great deal of power and no details can be revealed of names, location, etc, and the cases are usually held in secret and there is very limited right of appeal.
In this case according to the CNA reporting it, this particular judge is biased, as she previously acted as a counsel for British Pregnancy Advice Service, one of the three leading abortion providers in Britain, along with Brooks Advisory Centres and Marie Stopes Clinics.
Associated Press wrote: • Nevada couple are legal guardians of their daughter, 32 • She who was living in a Reno group home when she wandered away and became pregnant 13 weeks ago • Child's father has not been identified and it is unknown if pregnancy resulted from rape or consensual sex • Both the parents and woman want her to carry the baby to term in line with their Catholic religious beliefs
--"Woman, 32, who has the mental capacity of a 6-year-old, will not be forced to have an abortion even though the pregnancy could put her health at risk"
Apparently the Catholic anti-abortionists thought this story was so good that it had to be recycled every several years?
