Bibles Threatened by US Trade War with China, Christian Publishers Warn
China is the world’s largest Bible publisher, thanks to Nanjing-based Amity Press which has printed almost 200 million Bibles since 1988 in partnership with the United Bible Societies.

For the world’s largest Christian publisher, HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP), more than three quarters of its production costs are incurred in China. Its portfolio includes bestselling authors such as Rick Warren, as well as the New International Version (NIV) and the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. The two popular translations give HCCP 38 percent of America’s Bible market, which sees about 20 million Bibles sold annually. ...

You're anadoctal observations are interesting, Timothy, but still does not show what will happen when the effects of the large amounts of deficient spending kick in. Out of curiosity, were all these signs at the high paying Chick-fil-A?

Euan Rellie, founder of BDA Partners, a New York-based, Asia-focused investment bank, disparaged the president’s performance in the signing ceremony and the scarcity of breakthroughs in the pact as an example of Trump’s penchant for “showmanship over substance”.

“His base is just lapping it up,” he said. “The reality is US farmers aren’t better off after the phase one compared to the beginning of the trade war.”

However, Rellie expressed relief at the de-escalation in US-China tensions. “At least what we have now is Trump is unlikely to impose more tariffs,” he said. “I won’t call it a win. I will call it an uneasy temporary peace. It’s better than nothing.”...

Jim, my wife and I spent eleven days traveling earlier this month, and in every city, town and hamlet we saw “Now Hiring” signs—something we NEVER saw when your hero the Muslim-in-Chief was in the White House. Taxes are down, unemployment is down, overregulation is down, and the economy overall is in better shape than it has been for a long time. If you think you can do a better job than Trump, then put your money where your not inconsiderable mouth is and run for President.

It seems almost quaint today, but the U.S. washer industry was one of the first sectors that Trump decided to rescue through an aggressive, no-holds-barred tariff. And now that a few months have passed, the industry offers a useful preview for how Trump’s tough-on-trade strategy can backfire for many of the U.S. companies, consumers and workers he wants to help....

...so far, the data suggest consumers have been hung out to dry....

The cost of bibles made in China has skyrocketed . From last year alone a newly published bible from Harper Collins has doubled in price. I think the only USA bible companies are Kirkbride ( Thompson Chain), Local Church Bible Publishing And Church Bible Publishing.

Thanks Chris GP, yes they have a great many foreign Bibles and more on the way, because they have that burden for souls to hear the gospel in their own language. Hence my great respect for them, and little respect for money-grubbing publishers, who are more interested in profit margins than precious souls for whom Christ died.

Actually the Trinitarian Bible Society do not just print English Authorised Version King James Bibles. Yes, that is the only version they produce in English, but they actually print foreign language Bibles. The Old Testament is translated exclusively from the Hebrew and Aramaic Masoretic Text, and the New Testament is translated exclusively from the Greek Textus Receptus.

The liberal texts of Westcott and Hort / Nestle Aland are not used, or Codex Vaticanus or Sinaiticus, that they come from.

There are many projects going forward for Bible translations for many languages that exclusively use the Masoretic OT and the Textus Receptus NT, and no these Bibles are definitely not printed in China!!

Strange that money is the only concern. Shouldn't Christians be happy to pay more for ethically produced Bibles that aren't from a country that represses Christianity? I get it with Harper Collins, a huge publisher that is in it for the money, but why do Crossway and LifeWay outsource Bible production to China? Shouldn't they have some scruples, and shouldn't their customers be willing to pay more for an ethically sourced product? For years I've been perplexed by how Christians have ignored this issue so completely it's not even an issue.

The comforting part is the atheistic, communist country of China has repressed Christianity, and God has used them to flood the world with Bibles. That's great

From the article:

"China has become unparalleled in Bible publishing for its economy of scale and highly skilled workforce."

If you have seen the factories these things are done in, you would know the pressures that are put on the workers to meet tight quotas. Is righteous to call them "skilled workers" or just call it what it is, cheap labour in slave like conditions.

Good News for lovers of the Bible everywhere: the Trinitarian Bible Society of London, England, began printing its own Bibles some years ago, and is trustworthy. It's also not Chinese.

But they only print what they consider to be the best and most accurate Bibles at their works in London. Here is a list of those Bibles:

1. King James Version

Is that it? Yep!
