The Divorce Rate Is at a 40-Year Low, Unless You’re 55 or Older
Divorces hit a historical high point in 1979, when 22.6 marriages out of every 1,000 broke up, according to researchers at the National Center for Family and Marriage Research at Bowling Green University.

By 2017, the rate had dropped to 16.1 divorces for every 1,000 marriages. That’s a decrease of 28.8% from the high point, and the lowest the divorce rate has been in 40 years.

One cause, researchers believe, is that people are delaying marriage.

It is sad to see that the over-55 set is still having lots of divorces. It makes you wonder how long did those marriages last? I think they were for longer periods, because the over-55 set is not known for getting married on the spur of a moment, like under 25-set is (mostly due to the fact that the scientists have told us the part of the brain involved in decision making, the hippocampus, I think, does not mature until 25).
And what that makes you think is there is little societal support for older marriages.
If we apply wisdom we find in the Bible, we see this as a logical outcome of a society that does not guide itself by the Bible. Older women are getting divorced because they are not following the Bible's clear guidelines for their lives, expressed for example in 1 Timothy 5.
Paul tells Timothy there that younger widows (under 60) should get married.
Do we hear that coming from any church today? Does the great and wonderful Beth Moore teach that at her women's conferences? Does the Myers lady teach this? No, instead we get reports of how bad their marriages were, which attract a lot of women to their conferences and websites. Listening to them is like drinking vinegar!

The article is not about the number of divorces going down, it is about the rate at which it happens among married couples. It never included those who were not at one point united in marriage.

from the article

"Divorces hit a historical high point in 1979, when 22.6 marriages out of every 1,000 broke up, according to researchers at the National Center for Family and Marriage Research at Bowling Green University.

By 2017, the rate had dropped to 16.1 divorces for every 1,000 marriages. That’s a decrease of 29% from the high point and the lowest the divorce rate has been in 40 years".

if you Google the headline you will find access to the article

It appears that you guys have perhaps already read the article:

"So we’re left — not for the first time — with a cotton-candy headline (“More religiously conservative Protestants? More divorce, study finds”) and a story that lacks any real meat."
excerpted from:

https://tinyurl.com/y2r2x8d5 (Breaking news (again): Bible Belt divorce rates high)

but this article is looking at older people so are hungering for younger mates. I can think of one well known man who has been married three times, and I'm surprised he hasn't traded his present wife in for a newer one?

But it isn't the only men, Paula White is 53 years old, and she has been married three times!

John 4:14-18
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I don’t get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You said well, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly.”

Probably because fewer people get married.

It is about the divorce rate so it only includes people who are married, it is not about the number of divorces per se

Divorce is wrong at any age

Ecclesiastes 9:9
Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your life of vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity, for that is your portion in life, and in your labor in which you labor under the sun.
