Venezuela’s Collapse Is the Worst Outside of War in Decades, Economists Say
Zimbabwe’s collapse under Robert Mugabe. The fall of the Soviet Union. Cuba’s disastrous unraveling in the 1990s.

The crumbling of Venezuela’s economy has now outpaced them all.

Venezuela’s fall is the single largest economic collapse outside of war in at least 45 years, economists say.

“It’s really hard to think of a human tragedy of this scale outside civil war,” said Kenneth Rogoff, an economics professor at Harvard University and former chief economist at the International Monetary Fund. “This will be a touchstone of disastrous policies for decades to come.” ...

It is tragic to see what has happened to this previously prosperous oil producing South American nation of Venezuela. Despite sanctions and pressure from USA and neighbouring South American countries, they will not intervene militarily.

President Maduro can cling on to power with the help of his corrupt military forces, Cuba, Russia (with some covert military help), Iran, and China (which I believe is supplying surveillance equipment to the government, and buying up all the infrastructure of the country).

It doesn’t look as if the opposition led by President designate Guaidó has any chance, humanly speaking, at all. Meanwhile disease and armed gangs are rife (security guards aren’t even allowed to carry arms), and people are eating zoo animals, feral strays, and when they can get them, offal and meat sweepings from the butchers!!

We must pray for the believing evangelical churches and for the suffering believers there.

21 trillion dollars have passed down to the citizens of our nation and corporations and municipalities as tax breaks, loans or “sit on my behind because I can relief checks.” To quote Top Gun-“ son your Ego is cashing checks your body can’t cash”

Well said, 'Adriel' but I doubt the USA will be sending any troops soon. The Cubans are mixed in there as well, with their guys trained as snipers shooting the protestors from large distances, so they won't be detected.
A trip there would be helpful for Democrat Socialist people like AOC and Bernie.

Venezuelan president is a bus driver who came through the 'unions' into communist politics and subsequently into government.

He should have stayed on the buses.

He and his gang of commie style political friends are ruining the nation, ruining hospitals and food production and destroying the lives of millions of people.

This is the usual advert of communist -- socialist type of government.

An example of mankinds worst and most incompetent style of governing nations.

You can see why God does not support communism and socialism.
Only Liberalism is worse than this.

Man by nature is blind and ignorant --Eph 4:18.

Mankinds nation administrations demonstrate how stupid the mortal can be.

And should we expect Venezuelans to learn from this and repent from supporting a home-grown socialist regime? I'm not banking on it. Look at France and Britain, which have had socialist policies entrenched for generations now, yet I see no desire by Yellow Vests or Brexiters to return to a more libertarian, La Belle Époque social order. Or what part of LBJ's Welfare State has ever been repealed?

The best hope for dismantling socialism is when it has been imposed by a hated outsider, such as in E. Europe. Otherwise, it's like a Black Hole that cannot be escaped, for what voter will renounce an "entitlement," no matter how destructive it may be in the long run?

This is the evil genius of Leftist ideology, that appeals to the worst tendencies of fallen human nature.

Yet some want socialism. Dumb has no limit. For some reason, the NY Times article avoids mentioning socialism, instead speaking of "poor governance, corruption, and misguided policies.." thus that foundation for these things is missing. But being the NY Times, they did lay some blame on Trump. Not that he was president when this all began, but hey, we can't let real things interfere with the agenda can we?
