3 In 4 Prefer Traveling By Car Than Plane
Memorial Day is around the corner and that means newscasts and outlets from coast to coast will be posting their obligatory stories about vacationers hitting the road and the ensuing traffic nightmare. But for most Americans, hopping in the car is the way to go regardless. A new survey finds that about 3 in 4 prefer traveling by car than by plane — even if it means a painstakingly longer trip.

In fact, according to the survey of 2,000 adults commissioned by Ford, the average participant would rather add up to 6.5 hours of travel time to their journey by taking the car instead of dealing with the stress of getting on an airplane. ...

I don’t have the luxury of car driving, unless someone gives me a lift, or on a rare time when I have money, and necessity of speed to take a taxi, as I have never had a driving licence, and not usually money for a car anyway!!

I walk, get buses, trains, tubes, and so on ( even trams when I have visited the places that have them).

That’s how I have generally travelled for all of my life. I have used a few commercial planes too, when I worked in Continental Europe, and once, when my late sister was learning to fly a small plane, I went up once with her instructor and even handled the controls briefly!!

So predictable. A typical, Southern hickbilly, always deflecting, because the cold, hard truth is so depressing. The deep South is one, ginormous landfill, with a lot of happy hickbillies using it to play, whack a mole, and find treats to eat.

We don't have any trash dumps up here. All of our garbage gets overnighted, daily, to you people down there, so you can go treasure hunting for gifts to give your kin, and find stuff to eat.

A lifted Chevy is a truck that has had it's body lifted off of the ground higher than what it usually is. Same concept as a monster truck, but not as high off the ground.
Thanks JAG,

That reminds me of when I was a worldling. I was driving a rather plain Vauxhall Victor Estate car with a 1.6 litre engine. It had leaf springs at the rear, and the back end of the spring bolted on to the chassis. So I made four plates of steel about nine inches long and two inches wide and used them between the spring and the chassis on each side. This lifted up the rear of the car and looked sort of cool. But the handling was not good. It was the only car I made that mod to, and after I became a Christian I didn't make any mods at all on any vehicle, nor did I ever seek to look cool. Those sorts of things belonged in the past and were merely money-wasters and vanity-pleasers.

I’m getting out the J.C. Whitney catalogue right now and ordering a lift kit for my goat cart. Maybe a few LED lights for the wheel spokes while I’m at it. I wonder if they have snow tires for shopping carts?

But it's quite like the whole socialism topic. When use commercial or mass transit, sometimes you find yourself have a nice convienence. Often times, you find yourself invonvienced and overly regulated.

Air travel is uncomfortable, expensive, and time consuming, but there is a point at which the distance travelled makes it necessary.

I had a very enjoyable journey by rail a few years ago that was quite pleasant, especially in comparison to driving. But if my family had been with me, it would have been quite expensive.

So while I don't have a lift kit on my truck like my Alabama cousin, yes, driving is preferable. It is comfortable, cost effective for my family, enables us to meet our needs when they arise, and gets us directly to our destination.

You wouldn't if you lived in the UK where we pay over 7$ a gallon, £1.30/litre for unleaded fuel.

BTW, what is a "lifted" Chevy?

Goat carts are the wave of the future. You know what they say: “Ride with goats, or you’re missing the boat.”

Sheryl Connelly, chief futurist for Ford was one of the people who commented in the article. Hopefully she isn't one of the 7,000 who is going to be sacked by Ford because fewer cars are going to be sold.

Not a bad article, though.
