In the 2018 superhero film Avengers: Infinity War, when the villain Thanos snaps his fingers with the preeminent Infinity Gauntlet, half of the world vanishes, leaving an “ideal world” for the 50% who survive the snap.
Today, in the non-fiction world, Beijing wants to follow suit and make all of the unregistered churches in China vanish, so that only the state-sanctioned Three-Self churches remain.
The census published by the communist regime in 2018 states that there are nearly 40 million Christians in China. Given the discrete nature of underground churches, some experts believe that the actual number of Christians falls between 80 million and 100 million....
So true, JohnUk. I feel the same. So much is going on in the world today that tells me things are changing. Christians are being persecuted in different ways everywhere. I really needed to hear that, brought peace and joy to my heart.
I quite expect that some of the house churches are not churches at all, but cultish types who do not believe the deity of Christ and who promote a works salvation. But there will be many who are genuine Christians, born of the Spirit, and are therefore the most loving people in the whole of China. To be filled with the Spirit is to be filled with love, because "God is Love". There are more Chinese people who need to hear about the love of God for them, and that Jesus died in their place to save them, but the government are making it difficult to accomplish that.
But don't forget what happened in Albania, the world's first atheistic country, proudly boasting against God. But God, in his love for the people there, overthrew their government and arranged for the glorious gospel to once again be heard in their streets, and sinners were converted to Jesus Christ, and were filled with the Spirit of God, therefore they were filled with love and joy and peace, and all the other marvelous fruit of the Spirit, which thing characterises all true Christian people. Christianity is all about love, as Jesus taught.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
