Selena Gomez: 'Social media has been terrible for my generation'
Selena Gomez has spoken out against the “devastating” effects of social media on young people, arguing that its emergence has been “terrible for my generation”.
The singer and actor, who with more than 150 million followers is one of the world’s most popular figures on Instagram, said at a press conference for her new zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die that it had become “impossible at this point” to make social media platforms safe for users, and called on young people to take a break from social media if they were feeling overwhelmed.
“For my generation specifically, social media has been terrible,” Gomez said. “I understand that it’s amazing to use as a platform but it does scare me when you see how exposed these young girls and boys are. I think it’s dangerous for sure.”...

Hey don't forget Pony Express, Morse code and Telegrams!
Thanks Dr. Tim, you’re a true Christian friend that keeps me encouraged with fun remarks. Have always had a serious side but love the fun times we have on here at times.
Guy, those are well and good but for me Facebook is much more intimate. I came on here as a chance to have Christian fellowship never dreaming how it would all turn out, guess I forgot we all have clay feet and different views on things. I try not to respond when things get ugly at times. At least I am working on it and it has been a learning experience A training is how I now look at. To handle all kinds of exchanges with all kinds of people has helped me in my walk with Jesus.

We all managed to keep in contact very well before Xanga, Myspace, Fakebook, Google+...
What *has* changed is these new platforms allow people to get dopamine hits -just like gambling addicts- every time a contact who is most likely a person they barely know approves of their life. "My biscuit picture got 6000 thumbs up" "My youtube soft porn karaoke video has 2 million views"
We have stopped listening unless the voice agrees with our opinion and now only yell at people with whom we have differences instead of talk with them. We have stopped believing that right and wrong are facts, instead of opinions.
We have stopped looking for approval of our actions from our Maker, and started looking for it from ourselves.

I am on Facebook and have a few games I play and hear the news from friends I went to church with for the years my husband worked there until his retirement. Like US, we too hear of and pray for each other as the need arises, that otherwise I would never know about. I see pictures of family members and even the teenagers that hung out at my house all grown up with families of their own and pictures of them. If I didn’t have that time with them on Facebook and their love for me and prayers for each other through Facebook, life would be a little empty because God gives us that need for Christian fellowship however we get it.
*influences and the like. Of course all social media isn't bad (not even personal, much less ministry or business related), but the question is, are we able to avoid the problems that can come with it. Very tough questions to answer in todays world...
US says... Yet it would be good to consider that you can tell about 40-50 brothers and sisters in Christ who know your wife that she is sick and request prayer as I did today...
Excellent point.👍
I have thought about the same thing, and wondered where is the balance in over doing it on social media, and loosing benefits that come from it...
What I have come up with is this. In order to avoid the addictions that come with social media, don't do social media. But the best way to use the benefits that could come from them, is to find another way to use that benefit. In other words, many people I know use the mass text feature on their phones to get I message or plan out to others. And a church we used to attend has a Group-me account for all the members to post prayer request, meal plans, new baby updates, etc on it. And if you have ever done Group-me it's not very addicting. It's certainly the most limited form of social media I have come across, since it looks like an enormous text feed with all the members posting on it...
These are very interesting issues we are dealing with today, as we need to apply the principles found in the Bible rather than a specific command. There is no verse claiming "don't do social media". Only verses saying to avoid gossip, worldy influ

That a missionary family serving in Pau Pau New Guinea whose only communication with those in the states other than a letter that goes to supporting churches, access FB (not instant because of where it originates) sharing progress and prayer requests that actually get read.
You can post a gospel message that you hope God will use in the lives of your unsaved friends (I Cor. 3:6)
Post relating to activities (like where we ate) or kids are a normal part of conversation when people get together and you discuss how things are going, you just get to share it with more people
Facebook abuses aren’t FB problems they are the people using its problems The thing that some people seem to forget is that it is a public forum and your privacy in any information you share is non-existent
Anything we use should be done for the purpose of glorifying the Lord.
The only stuff I have gotten into is Vimeo as me and BDF are musicians...
The obsessions with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat is destroying our Nation's communication, making a entire generation verbally retarded and unprepared for the real world. When you're have a conversation that goes like this...

Social media isn't cheap, it is actually very expensive. And some people are realising it is not the best thing since sliced bread.
Is there a form of communication which is free? Sure there is. Go round next door and talk to your neighbour. Jesus said we are to love our neighbour as ourself. God loves our neighbour, therefore we ought to love our neighbour. It is simple theology, but in ignorance we think the smartphone does all.
Here is an idea for free communication which involves staying at home. You invoke the name of Jesus, and you approach unto God within the veil, by a new and living way, by the blood of Christ, and you come up to the mercy seat, where you can meet with the Great Creator who loves you, and you can rest in his presence, being enveloped by his Spirit, saturated in his love, fed by his teachings, know absolute peace of mind, and having the joy of the Lord, and being filled with his love and grace, you can eventually come out of that glorious place and take your part in the world, carrying his grace into every place, and loving people who do not deserve loving. It is a great life, the Christian life. It is worth more than all the riches of the world.
