Utah Governor Signs Bill to Ban Abortions on Babies With Down Syndrome
The governor of Utah has signed into law legislation to protect unborn babies with Down syndrome from abortions.
HB 166, also known as the Down Syndrome Nondiscrimination Abortion Act, would prohibit women from getting abortions after a pregnancy screen indicates that their unborn child has Down syndrome. The bill includes provisions that specify what Down syndrome is, and require the state Department of Health to create an informational sheet and webpage to inform parents about the disability....
Mrs Arden, the Socialist Prime Minister, has surely got some explaining to do. I don’t know the policies of New Zealand with regard to abortion of disabled babies, but chances are, it follows the same policy as much of the West.
It is good that the Utah Governor is going against this terrible trend.
Down’s Syndrome children are often delightful happy children that bring great joy to all that know them. If they escape discrimination in the womb, they often get it later on.
Only this morning, I read of the shocking hypocrisy of the “dhimmi” Islam supporting state of New Zealand, fresh from the Christchurch mosque attacks.
While bending over backwards to support Muslims, local and immigrant, after the admittedly dreadful mosque attacks, New Zealand apparently has no room or time for a Down’s Syndrome child.
A lovely large Sri Lankan family currently living in the Republic of Ireland, applied legally for long term residence visas to join the husband and father of the family who had got a top IT job in New Zealand, and was fully legally resident there. All went well, and the mother and all the children, bar one, were automatically given visas. The last child, however, was denied the visa, because she is Down’s Syndrome, and the New Zealand authorities felt that her “health needs” were not conducive to New Zealand. This is despite the fact that the father is well off, and was quite happy to pay for any support expenses for his daughter at school or elsewhere. This is absolutely disgraceful, and now the family will have to scrap their plans to live in New Zealand and the
May the Lord bless the state legislators who have sponsored such bills and the governors who have passed them in several states recently. I pray that one day abortion will be illegal again in our nation. But until then, laws such as this one are better than nothing. May the Lord take away the sleep of all pro-abortion legislators by giving them endless nightmares of dead babies.
On Friday, Governor Gary Herbert signed the bill into law. Herbert did not immediately comment on his decision, but has said he’s generally “a pro-life guy.”
State Rep. Karianne Lisonbee said this year’s bill avoids the constitutional and legal problems that prevented last year’s bill from succeeding. HB 166 includes exceptions for rape, incest and risks to the mother’s life.
The above is from the article.
I wonder what “generally” pro-life means. My guess is nothing.
In the cases of rape and incest; what has the innocent baby done wrong that he/she should be murdered.
In the case of the mother’s life. There are no instances of that being the case.
"When the life of the mother is truly threatened by her pregnancy, if both lives cannot simultaneously be saved, then saving the mother’s life must be the primary aim. If through our careful treatment of the mother’s illness the pre-born patient inadvertently dies or is injured, this is tragic and, if unintentional, is not unethical and is consistent with the pro-life ethic. But the intentional killing of an unborn baby by abortion is never necessary."
