Ethiopian Airlines flight to Nairobi crashes, killing 157
An Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 passenger jet to Nairobi crashed early on Sunday with 149 passengers and eight crew members aboard, the airline said, and there were no survivors, according to the state broadcaster.

The flight left Bole airport in Addis Ababa at 8.38 am local time, before losing contact with the control tower just a few minutes later at 8.44 am.

"There are no survivors onboard the flight, which carried passengers from 33 countries," said state-run Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation, quoting an unidentified source at the airline. ...

https://tinyurl.com/yyllfsz9 (Trump: US grounding Boeing 737 Max 8, 9 after Ethiopia crash)

I also read that they are sending the black boxes from the Ethiopian airliner out of the country to have them looked at.

Also, American pilots in at least two instances has had trouble with the Boeing automatic "staller"

That is good, Chris.
Hopefully Boeing won't be slammed with a bunch of lawsuits, and keep on producing more quality planes and jets.

This Boeing Max plane was immediately without notice banned from the skies in Britain, which meant that some airplanes that were en route to Britain had to turn round and return to their original airport, where the passengers had then to transfer to other types of planes to finish their journey. Germany, Austria, France and some other European countries have also now banned these planes. This will continue until all the Max planes are tested, and found to be ok.

I don't think Boeing is going out of business anytime soon.

https://tinyurl.com/y36pv6td Ethiopian airlines can be considered one of the premier airlines in Africa and the pilot in this disaster had 8000 hours flight time. Its maintenance department is considered quite good also. Boeing seems to have a glitchy stall recovery system. Pilots are supposed to manually override it when it acts funny, but apparently it's only been recently been pointed out how to do that even in America, where so far there hasn't been any trouble with this plane.

Hi DF, I was listening to this story on the radio early this AM, and it's the Maxx 8 model, which was apparently brand new. Another of the same crashed somewhere else just late last year with the same outcome, so I think Boeing is gonna see their bank account get a little smaller with the lawsuits. I also think I heard that their stock plunged by 10% after this one. I can't imagine the fear, knowing you're going down.

That model is one of the oldest airliners around, so maintenance will be the key issue. I think they didn't do well in Africa on that score.

It probably happened after this article came out, but China has grounded its entire fleet of Boeing 737s. Besides the loss of life that the citizens of China and also United States had from this last crash, Boeing may be suffering soon from this perhaps noncoincidental destruction of this type of airplane.
