What young people are seeing on television are people like Grammy-nominated rapper Post Malone, the current poster boy of so-called mumble rap, also called SoundCloud rap or emo rap.
The popular sub-genre is characterized by its trap beats and lyrics that often touch on mental health problems and their consequences -- drugs, meds and lots of sex. Words are slurred and sometimes sung.
From Malone to the controversial 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert and the late XXXTentacion, nearly all mumble rappers have face tattoos -- breaking with their elders who had little interest in the look....
Chris I would encourage you to listen to Bryann T who is a powerful minister of The Gospel via Rap. This gentleman really has encouraged and brought edification by the power of the Holy Spirit to my wife and I. At times we’ll be driving I’ll have him on and The Spirit will jus hit me have me bawling well my wife is next me.
"Many younger customers do not realize the implications of what they are asking for, according to Guevara. They don't really know that it's a lifetime thing, that it will deeply impact their life."
How true...a temporary fad, that will end up being yet, another lifetime regret. When these kids turn 50, 60, 70+, they are all gonna look absolutely ridiculous, especially as their now tight skin begins to sag, and their hair thins, etc. A lifetime of regret, for sure.
These kids look to their favorite artist, or the cool, relevant, people at the moment, and try to emulate them, show their support, and show everyone around them how cool they are by getting their faces inked up; not realizing at the time that, as they mature, as their idols fade, and as the fads come and go, that they are making highly irrational decisions/mistakes that won't take all that long before they look into a mirror one day, and say, "What in the world was I thinking??"
I didn’t bother to read the accompanying article. However, 2 things occur to me here.
First, the lawlessness of all types of rap music. It seems to have a very destructive message and anarchistic beat. I am very shocked when certain modern CCM churches embrace this music in a “Christianised” form, to try to reach kids in the ghettos. The whole rap music by its very nature is loud, strident and irreverent.
The whole aspect of tattoos, body piercing and other types of marking and destruction of the body is totally pagan and rightly condemned on the OT. I believe that carries on in the NT, simply because as Christians, our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and for any Christian, as some modern Christians, seem to have done, to deface and mark his or her own body, contrary to this, is disobedient and anarchistic and insulting, I believe to our Precious Creator and Lord.
Let us be very clear to keep away from these things. Our churches and our bodies should be very clearly different from the world. Do not let us get ready as if we were taking the mark of the Antichrist. We all know where that leads!!!
