Daily Show Calls Religious Freedom 'Crazy' While Mocking Karen Pence's Christianity

Wednesday, The Daily Show followed CBS’s lead in trying to shame VP Mike Pence’s wife Karen after it was announced that she would be returning to teaching art to students at a Christian school in Northern Virginia. Because the school is Christian, it holds Christian policies for its students and faculty. Apparently that’s a shocking thing in 2019, as host Trevor Noah took aim at Pence and America’s “crazy” right to religious freedom.

The very short segment began with Noah taking cheap shots at the Pence’s relationship:

“Moving on to other hiring news, Mike Pence's wife Karen or ‘Mother’ as she's called during their BDSM late-night kink sessions, announced she is going back to work,” he began. The Daily Show then played a news brief pointing out the “controversy” of Karen Pence going to work at a Christian school, which “bans gay and transgender students and makes job candidates sign a pledge ...

Glad to help.

I think Catholic political power in America has two causes:
1) Massive immigration from miserable Catholic countries, starting with Ireland, then Italy, Poland, Germany, and more recently, Latin America. This is why the RCC likes illegal migrants: easy church growth (see www.jesuit.org);
2) Protestants abandoning distinctives like Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide, leaving no substantial difference with Rome. Popularly, the only difference is pop worship bands vs. Smells & Bells.

Thanks a lot, Neil. That is exactly the sort of thing I needed to read, and read it I did. There's nothing like getting it straight from the horse's mouth, and you couldn't get much straighter talking than that speech at the breakfast. There's no doubting it, he is Roman Catholic through and through, and he is what? Vice President of the USA? Wow. Is that better than having an atheist or worse?

Anyway, thanks again, that's a great help.

Catholicism dominates the religious side of American conservative politics. Many noisy media conservatives, like on Fox News, are or were Catholics. Any talk against Rome would get the same response from them and their ecumenical "Protestant" allies as criticizing Martin Luther King around Democrats.

The coastal entertainment elite has always treated Catholicism as Christianity in TV and movies. Celebrities raised Catholic like to joke about their parochial school childhood.

Principled critics like you, me, and the Trinity Foundation have as little public credibility as Flat Earthers in this country. Conservatives in my extended family do not want to hear anything against the Roman Church-State. I was not raised critical of Catholicism; I had to find out for myself, and now it's repulsive to me.

This is very serious, SC. How could any Christian say such things at a prayer breakfast? I understand that politicians must represent all the electorate, but not to leave their Christianity behind while attending a Catholic prayer breakfast.
Is there proof of this stuff? I would like to see a recording of these words. Imagine being there when he said that the Catholic church and all its members have been a force for good. What!

You are correct. This past Sunday at my Baptist Church the sermon by the Senior Pastor was titled "It's Good News. Believe It" from Mark 1:15. It was about the Gospel of salvation. Then after worship there was a soup lunch followed by the annual business meeting in which the budget for 2019 was discussed.

VP Pence was Roman Catholic, but broke away from the church, not right away, but some time after being born again, either while in college, or in to 90's, somewhere in there. He referred to himself as an evangelical Catholic; a born again Catholic for some time after, but now just refers to himself as an evangelical Christian; a born again Christian.

I don't know why there's still confusion out there (I don't mean here) about him currently being Roman Catholic, but he renounced that part of his life long ago. In fact, I don't know if it's still the case, if she's even alive, but his mom either disowned, or stopped talking to him for some time after because he left the church.

I thought VP Pence was R. Catholic as well, but wikipedia lists a source that says he was converted to a born again evangelical faith while in college.

I think the 'young and hip' watch the Daily Show, but its overall audience share is not huge. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Dave Ramsey draw more people with their radio programs.
But the Daily Show represents the Tip of the Iceberg when it comes to Mainstream Media thoughts on Christianity.
Notice that they didn't bring up the difference between the VP being Catholic and the wife not, probably because they didn't want to anger any Catholics who are in those types of marital unions, and most likely, they can't tell the difference themselves.
When it comes to anything in the Mainstream Media and your local newspapers, I think it is safe to assume that they know nothing of Christianity, the Bible, or any other religion, though they will respect other ones more than Christianity.
Just ask yourself, have they been putting down Hindus for trying to wash away their sins in the River Ganges during the current Kumbh Mela festival?

This is so blasphemous, crude, and wicked! Christians need to use their boycot power and boycott the Daily Show. Pray first then boycott. So grieved by this! Then again, His word tells us to expect persecution.

If the daily show were to read the comments or listen to some of the IFB sermons ( sprinkled) on SA they’d be calling for us to be loaded up , shot and pushed into a ditch and buried for the building of a mega abortion clinic run by transgender men turned into modified monsters.
