'Masculinity' deemed harmful
It's all your fault, men.

For the first time in its history, the American Psychological Association (APA) released guidelines concerning men and boys, saying that so-called “traditional masculinity” not only is “harmful” but also could lead to homophobia and sexual harassment.

“The main thrust of the subsequent research is that traditional masculinity – marked by stoicism, competitiveness, dominance and aggression – is, on the whole, harmful,” reads the news release by the famed association. ...

That is right Neil. We must not copy what we saw on television, ad nauseum. I fully agree with your warning.

It is indeed God's word which defines masculinity. That said, A Christian, either man or woman, while not being childish, must be child-like in dependence upon Christ Jesus and humble in his demeanor.

We are not to rely upon the world, its mass media or its politics but upon God and his Word. He is our Prophet, our Priest, and our King.

A reminder: Masculinity is whatever Scripture says it is, not what Tradition says. Don't assume that what bearded Real Men did in the 19th Century is always what God-fearing men should do today, such as shoot each other over matters of pride or start wars.

We do know that Scripture deprecates childishness, but today that is encouraged by the mass media ad nauseum for marketing and political motives, per Edward Bernays. Corporations and governments alike want infantile, dependent people, not self-sufficient nuclear families led by monogamous men.

To my own 2 cents:

That is good that you like to discuss different subjects. We often learn if we are teachable. It is the Spirit of God which makes us so.

You quote 1 Corinthians 11:15 that a woman's long hair is her head covering. Historically the Christian church did not understand the verse this way.

From Chrysostom:

"And if it be given her for a covering," say you, "wherefore need she add another covering?" That not nature only, but also her own will may have part in her acknowledgment of subjection. For that you ought to be covered nature herself by anticipation enacted a law..."

From John Calvin a sadly true prophecy:

"So if women are thus permitted to have their heads uncovered and to show their hair, they will eventually be allowed to expose their entire breasts, and they will come to make their exhibitions as if it were a tavern show; they will become so brazen that modesty and shame will be no more; in short they will forget the duty of nature...Further, we know that the world takes everything to its own advantage. So, if one has liberty in lesser things, why not do the same with this the same way as with that? And in making such comparisons they will make such a mess that there will be utter chaos..."

We are to follow in the footsteps of the

Susan, the womans hair is their physical headcovering, not an ha/sash/bandana or scarfe.

1 Corinthians 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

I don't mean to be contentious, I just like to have a discussion about different subjects.

As a wife and mother of three sons,,I have enjoyed my role as both.I was a stay at home mom and loved being able to do so. I love the fact and embrace being a woman.I have a strong husband who has worked hard to support his family. He is not perfect but so do I. I love that he is strong and protective of me and gladly give him the job of leadership of our home. I have watched our sons to grow up and become the same as their father hard working and great husbands and fathers .God has given me the role that only a woman can fulfill because she is different than a man. Each has their part to be and do as His will for them.

"God has revealed himself to us in the Bible pervasively as King, not Queen, and as Father, not Mother. The second person of the Trinity is revealed as the eternal Son. The Father and the Son created man and woman in his image, and gave them together the name of the man, Adam (Gen 5:2). God appoints all the priests in Israel to be men. The Son of God comes into the world as a man, not a woman. He chooses twelve men to be his apostles. The apostles tell the churches that all the overseers—the pastor/elders who teach and have authority (1 Tim 2:12)—should be men; and that in the home, the head who bears special responsibility to lead, protect, and provide should be the husband (Eph 5:22–33)."

".... God has given Christianity a masculine feel. And, being a God of love, he has done it for the maximum flourishing of men and women. He did not create women to languish, or be frustrated, or in any way to suffer or fall short of full and lasting joy, in a masculine Christianity. She is a fellow heir of the grace of life (1 Peter 3:7).
.... the fullest flourishing of women and men takes place in churches and families where Christianity has this God-ordained, masculine feel."

Men are really under attack in our society and men and women are both the losers.

And men preach that women need not pay attention to covering their heads in public showing their submission to their husbands and common decency. Women have burned their hats.

How can anyone in good conscience read 1 Corinthians 11:1-16 and tell me that head covering for women was only cultural?

Christians have compromised the word of God making it mean what they imagine, not the truth.

Both men and women would benefit by their return and obedience to the truth and not explain it away.

Calvinism, masculinity and niceness.

"1. Most christians are effeminate
In other words, masculinity is misconstrued as meanness. As the Art of Manliness documents, Christianity is plagued by feminization problems—from congregations which are disproportionately female, to pastors with generally lower testosterone and more feminine qualities, to “manly” men feeling excluded from or uncomfortable in church."

"It is when feminine qualities start to occlude masculine ones in men, or masculine qualities start to occlude feminine ones in women, that God’s design becomes perverted. Effeminacy is not a word one tends to use of women, since it would be tautologous; it is a word one uses of men who exhibit feminine qualities to the detriment of masculine ones. Men who act like women or take on their roles are sinning. This is especially obvious in sexual relationships (cf 1 Corinthians 6:9, KJV), but is not limited to that context (cf Deuteronomy 22:5)."

One need not look to psychology but rather to Scripture in regards to what is pleasing to God in regards to demeanor:

Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Thanks for the comment brother! Yes, the feminist movement is probably the most evil movement we have. It not only destroys women, but men, children, governments, cultures and especially the churches. Most churches toe the line and are very concerned about offending women who attend.

Why is it that when Pastors preach against feminism and for the necessity of married women to be submissive and obedient to their husbands as unto the Lord, they almost invariably assuage their comments by interjecting the duties of married men to love their wives as Christ loved the church and to not treat their wives as inferior or as slaves or objects in response to their submission. The usual sentence goes something like this; “now men this doesn’t give you the right to be dictatorial”. Or worse than that is the comment that God didn’t take Eve from Adam’s foot, so … Some would say these folks are simply teaching the whole council of God. If that is true why is not the converse also true? Why when they teach about the roles of men do they not normally interject the roles of women in any assuaging fashion.

Men are to love their wives as Christ loves His church and women are to obey and be submissive to their husbands as unto the Lord. See that wasn’t hard at all!

Frank, excellent points.

I doubt if there is but a few women left in Wales who would accept that sort of headship. That is how far away from God the country is. And I'm just talking about women in the church. The rest, of course, do not accept it, especially with the TV set promoting how women are to be; it's like a daily injection of "this is how you are to live your life, girls".

Very sad news, but not totally unsurprising. The APA was the same group that classified sodomy as a mental disease many years ago, and under pressure from sodomites, changed their guidelines.
If you look at your local prison's population, you will most likely find that it is overwhelmingly male (in my area it is 90 percent). No one argues that more women need to be put in jail to balance out that ratio. However, they will say that jails 'unfairly' target blacks, since there are more blacks there than whites or Asians or Hispanics. No one has thought, well, let's go throw in jail every Asian that we find jaywalking, or not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign when driving, because we need balance in our jails.

I have heard and read many arguments about the inadequacies of men and that society needs for them to change. Has anyone ever, and I mean ever heard any secular media say that women need to change? The only change that is ever noted is they need to become more like men. In other words, a traditional woman isn’t wrong, but is the way they are because of men. The truth is that men and women who are not in Christ are both as deficient as each other.

1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

Try rearranging the above in any way. Can someone say that Christ is the head of God or that man is the head of Christ? The answer is of course not, but society will and has said that man is not head of woman!

All of us, including myself, are guilty of furthering this abominable feminist movement. But when we recognize what is taking place, we should fight against it.

Men were designed to lead and women were designed to follow and complement men. Satan has reversed God’s perfect design. The most common movement even in our churches is egalitarianism and it should be complementarianism.

The main thrust of the subsequent research is that traditional masculinity – marked by stoicism, competitiveness, dominance and aggression – is, on the whole, harmful,”

The double standard is amazing, can’t we label them as being masculinephobic? Why are they anti-masculine? And as far as being a stoic, that means suppressing emotion, if anyone wants to see a stoic, watch Startrek, Spock is a stoic (well, he’s a half breed so at times he shows emotion)

And furthermore, they have just condemned Jesus and the apostles because they were masculine, and they said homosexuality was sinful, therefore they were homophobic. 🙀
