Taiwan voters reject same-sex marriage

Taiwanese voters rejected same-sex marriage in a referendum Saturday, dealing a blow to the LGBT community and allies who hoped the island would become the first place in Asia to allow same-sex unions.

Three referendum questions initiated by groups that opposed marriage equality passed, while those put forth by same-sex marriage advocates did not.

For instance, the majority vote was yes on a question that asked, "Do you agree that Civil Code regulations should restrict marriage to being between a man and a woman?"

Voters, meanwhile, rejected a question put forth by LGBT activists that asked if civil code marriage regulations "should be used to guarantee the rights of same-sex couples to get married." ...

I'm doubtful about that; if Taiwan's parties were that sensitive to PRC pressure, there would be no point in its continued independence.

While I'm speculating too, my guess is, they fear Confucian Filial Piety would be undermined by legalizing such marriage. This is important enough to E. Asian nations that support for parents has been enforced by law. Americans are taught that parents are obstacles to personal fulfillment. Which is closer to the 5th Commandment?

Amen! Good to see such action from Taiwan!

I do have a feeling though, that they were probably pressured from their bigger brother, China.

Ever wonder why in the end times we’re not even hinted at( such arrogance) ? Could be because our country is of the world’s system-Babylon the Great.

Amen, BDF.

And that servant that knew his master’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew it not, and yet did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes: for unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required, and to whom men much commit, the more of him will they ask. - Luke 12:47-48

How ironic that although moat of Asia was controlled by paganism until the last 150 years, that they still don't have any governments that sanction such an abhorrent practice. Reminds me of how Jesus said the judgement on Israel would be harsher than that which would be inflicted on her godless neighbors. We're accountable for what we know.
