Secret churches in North Korea show how powerful the Bible really is

In the early morning light, a small group of North Korean believers meets on the riverbank, lugging their fishing gear with them.

Quietly, they load into a small boat and push off from land. It’s not until they’re far into the middle of the river that they dare to dig through their gear and pull out their Bibles.

This is the only place where they feel safe enough to worship together and study God’s Word. And even then, they are constantly on alert.

If they are caught reading the Bible, they could immediately be sentenced to 15 years in a labor camp – or worse. They’ve heard the stories of what happens to people who are heard speaking the name of Jesus. Many of them have family members and friends who are living in the camps now … or have been buried there. ...

Not sure the criticism of the brethren is warranted here. One, the thread on wine is not all about wine (btw, Sto Pro Veritate I would be careful about patting yourself on the back about using Scripture as two of your post were proven to be contrary to it). There are some topics that lend themselves to greater discussion than others Most of us have not suffered persecution like is seen in N Korea. Thus it is harder for us to relate to it, we praise God that His Word is not bound, and we pray for the brethren, but not sure there is a lot to discuss about it, as there is to pray about it

Albert Martin has a 4 message series on our persecuted brethren. If my memory serves me correctly, it usually does not, it was around the time a missionary family was killed that was supported or well known (or both) to their church.

Amen, God is sovereign and all powerful and you are so correct, no one can stay His hand!

Most don't ponder that when God blesses someone materially, then He is also testing them.

Again, YIA, thanks for pointing out that there bigger issues. The back half of the famous "love chapter," 1 Corinthians 13, includes a comment by Paul that now he sees through the glass darkly, confirming that he does not have all the correct answers, although because his writings in the Bible are inspired, we can trust them as fully true. But his point in context is that while disagreements will flow, love must, for believers, cover those disagreements.

I think that we focus on the disagreements as much as we do because we don't live like the believers in this news report. What is amazing to me is that KN was once a major missionary outpost for East Asia. And the faith that the Lord built thru those efforts lives on still. But I should not be amazed. It's just the Lord doing what He does to show who He calling sinners like me to Himself.

YIA your point is valid. The point I stressed in the wine issue is what does God say about it in His Word. We must go to The Word of God for all truth, not point people to our own opinions or interpretations. We still have it very easy here compared to our brothers and sisters in Christ from around the world. But in many ways they have it better. For spiritually they have nothing but The Word to sustain them, and are freed from the vanity of comfort and temporal securities.
John 14:6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
1 Peter 1:23Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
Romans 3:4God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Yes, Youth in Asia, I think you have a point. Drinking alcohol, modes of dress, and so on are no doubt important issues, but they pale into insignificance, when one sees news items about persecuted Christians.

I really pray that God will bless the river fishing boat fellowship Bible study in North Korea armed with their new Bibles!! Here, they are able to do what the Apostle Peter and his brother, the Apostle Andrew, did on both fronts, catch literal fish and maybe in a very secretive way, catch human “fish” too. I also pray for the other group, that picked up the old Bibles from the hotel janitor!!

I am also praying for Aasia Bibi, who was acquitted of blasphemy against the Islamic prophet in Pakistan, by the Pakistan Supreme Court, but unfortunately the cowardly government there has caved in to pressure from the hardline lawless Islamists, that they would stop rioting if she was kept in prison, placed on a list of people not allowed to leave the country, and the Supreme Court was made to “review” its decision. That is called government by the mob.

I wonder if they know the Biblical mystery on drinking wine? It's such an important doctrine that we have 3 pages of forum posts this week on it. How many pages of posts this news article will get?
