Episcopal Church Holds Off on Prayer Book Gender Language Revision

The Episcopal Church has held off on editing their Book of Common Prayer to possibly remove gender specific language for God. Instead, they passed a resolution encouraging the creation of new liturgies.

At the mainline denomination's 79th General Convention in Austin, Texas, the House of Deputies approved a resolution calling for revising their Book of Common Prayer to include more "inclusive and expansive language" for both God and humanity.

The House of Bishops created their own resolution language, which among other things resolved to "memorialize" the 1979 Book of Common Prayer which involves "preserving the psalter, liturgies, The Lambeth Quadrilateral, Historic Documents, and Trinitarian Formularies ensuring its continued use." ...

Some valid reasons to prefer the King James Version for some purposes...

No matter whether someone believes the KJV to be the best translation or not, almost all English-speaking serious Bible students prefer to use it for some situations:...

...There is no question that the "literary quality" of the KJV is eloquent, in the same way the works of Shakespeare (from the same period in history) are considered eloquent. Many words and phrases have worked their way into our vocabulary from the KJV, such as "apple of my eye." Thus in order to be "culturally literate" it is important to be familiar with the text of the KJV. This doesn't mean that one needs to consider it "clear" all the time … trying to read a Shakespearean play without a foot-noted edition can leave the average 21st century reader totally baffled much of the time. In the same way, one can "admire" the majestic turns of phrase in the book of Isaiah in the KJV, for instance … but it may be helpful to have a commentary or a modern translation nearby in order to get the full import of the words.....

The NKJV or ESV can come to be handy for the above purpose

This will in all probability be the only post I make on this subject.

I study using the NASB and of course because of the strong feelings of most posters, I post verses using the KJV. It is somewhat difficult to do that, but since I have nothing against the KJV, I don’t mind doing that. I'm sure that the KJV onlyists appreciate me taking the time to do that.

I also get a kick out of those who are KJV Onlyists, but for the sake of “whatever”, they say they are not. But, the Lord of course knows the hearts of all mankind. If someone says that all bibles other than the KJV are secular/satanic/catholic counterfeits of the true word, what in the world do you think you are saying?

double-tongued marked by deliberate deceptiveness especially by pretending one set of feelings and acting under the influence of another.

For all the hoopla of “ latest” evidence of the text, does not do anything but say, umm is that a translation or is that a commentary. I believe any translation other than the Authorized translation or her lower sisters ( Nkjv, ASV, Nasb, ), is a commentary text. I am still vacillating on the Esv because of its disregard of “ begotten “, and it’s limited footnotes and lack of italicized words for supplied words.

Hidden agendas underline the whole issue as you hint.
Any bible translation that choses to pick, disregard, dismiss, or substitute words here and there at bay in its renderings should be distrusted by definition.

I’m not a Kjv only guy, but John of UK , so true about westcott & hort. I read , years ago, about the making of the Kjv . The writer was one of these literary guys who was just writing about the literary quality of the Kjv. He talked about James and so forth. But in the book, “ Wide as the Waters, by Deckle Edge, did acknowledge that the translator of the authorized version, did know of the critical text but chose not to use portions because they were incomplete. Like a puzzle, vast pieces were missing. I have never understood why two Anglican deists would decide to publish a translation so adverse to the Word of God.

Westcott and Hort did the Catholic Church’s bidding by tearing Protestants from their bible and giving them the Sunday morning funny paper instead.
Anglicans are the dog running to its vomit, from a bad breakfast cooked by the pope.

Creation of new liturgies, and creation of suitable Bibles to suit those new liturgies; either way it is apostasy, finished. Thankfully the traitors WESTCOTT & HORT will not be able to revel in their accomplishment, not from their position in the darkest hell.
