Trump announces pardon for Dinesh D'Souza
President Trump said on Thursday that he planned to issue a pardon to Dinesh D’Souza, a conservative author, commentator and filmmaker, and was strongly considering commuting the sentence of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich of Illinois, a Democrat.

Flexing his clemency power as he and his team face multiple criminal investigations of their own, Mr. Trump also said that he was looking at the case of Martha Stewart, the lifestyle mogul who spent five months in prison for lying to investigators about the timing of a stock sale.

The pardon for Mr. D’Souza, who pleaded guilty in 2014 to making illegal campaign contributions, represents a victory for one of the president’s most vocal bases of support, the conservative media. Mr. D’Souza has argued that he was singled out for prosecution because of his conservative politics. ...

Fifth pardon? Wow. Obama pardoned over 200. Oh well, sometimes we forget.

President Trump has pardoned conservative commentator Dinesh D'Souza, who pleaded guilty in 2014 to making illegal campaign contributions in other people's names.

On Twitter on Thursday, Trump said D'Souza was "treated very unfairly by our government."

The White House later issued an official statement saying D'Souza was, "in the president's opinion, a victim of selective prosecution" — an opinion that was roundly rejected by a federal judge when D'Souza was sentenced. The White House also noted that D'Souza "accepted responsibility for his actions" and completed community service.

D'Souza has been an outspoken supporter of President Trump.

This is the fifth pardon of Trump's presidency. He told reporters on Air Force One on Thursday that he is considering using his clemency power in other high-profile cases, as well....

Very few things that Trump has done or is doing isn't to spite Obama, Timothy.

"Trump did it to spite Obama."

Did President Trump tell you he did it to spite Obama, or are you omniscient and capable of seeing inside men's hearts?

Tim, much as one automatically assumes that Trump granted a pardon because a gorgeous woman asked him to do it, this wasn't the case, or it was only partly the case. Remember or read the article, ]]https://tinyurl.com/y8dlyync (The First White President)! The main reason for him to become President was to spite ex-President Obama--besides the money making opportunities of being President of course. Obama didn't consider pardoning Jack Johnson the first Black heavyweight champion, or this woman -- Trump did it to spite Obama.

I am not familiar with Johnson's case, but I have met many, many "nonviolent drug offenders" whose ultimate suppliers were almost without exception violent drug cartels in the U.S., Mexico, Colombia and elsewhere. If I never murder anyone, but pay a hit man to do it for me, can you honestly say that I am "nonviolent"? It's sorta like Mr. Obama. Although he may not have committed terrorist acts himself, he sent billions of dollars to Iran to enable the Persians to continue to be terrorists. He should be hanged as a traitor for that.

President Donald Trump granted clemency on Wednesday to Alice Marie Johnson, a first-time nonviolent drug offender who was given a life sentence without parole, Mic has learned.

The 63-year-old great-grandmother — whose case has been spotlighted recently by Kim Kardashian West and Mic’s Opinion desk — will be released from federal prison in Aliceville, Alabama, where she has been serving her sentence since 1996.

News of Johnson’s release comes a week after Kardashian West advocated for her in an Oval Office meeting with Trump.

Now, obviously, Bill Clinton did the same with Marc Rich, but that was a low moment.

One pardon he’s done for sure, and that is conservative writer Dinesh D’Souza, who was convicted for campaign finance violations. But he’s also talking about pardoning Martha Stewart, who was involved in a stock trade, and then a commutation of the sentence of the former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

This has just come out of nowhere, apparently.

David Brooks:

Yes. Usually, there’s a process where you decide some injustice or somebody is exemplary in some way and they deserve a pardon.

Now it’s just pardons for friends. And so he should just do the extreme right-wing swamp and pardon them all at once, because he seems to be doing them one by one, Judge Arpaio and now Dinesh.

And so, you know, it’s just — it’s so political. And it’s of a nature of taking systems of our government, which are ideally nonpolitical, the justice system, and making it, I reward my friends.

Now, obviously, Bill Clinton did the same with Marc Rich, but that was a low moment. And now it almost has become routinized.

"they extract a confession out of you under threat" says Dinesh

too bad he can't pardon Tommy Robinson for covering the muslem pedophile trials

makes one wonder what the courts there are involved in.... that 29 accused of all sorts of crimes related to rape and pedophilia get long extended kangaroo court (witnessses say they didn't stop it cuz too afraid of being called racists? "thou shalt not be bigots") while a working class Brit gets whisked away to a 5 minute trial and sent to prison with the thousands of others who sit in British prison for [email protected] speech! ie talking about the destruction of their cities... while migrants are able to steal mopeds on the street with no repurcussions.

it is being said by many that a million girls/women have been raped there.

You talking about the King James version, Timmy?
While my comment before this one certainly describe the man, Trump, (Oh and read that and this one in its entirety) I could have found an article more directly related to the topic such as the following:
Aaron Blake wrote:
...when pardons have been given to political allies, it generally has been done in rare cases and in the twilight of a presidency, such as Bill Clinton's pardon of Marc Rich on his last day in office in 2001. Trump, who has demolished so many political norms, has increasingly laid waste to this one, too. Political pardons are apparently no problem for him.

Trump may indeed be testing the waters for a Cohen pardon, a Paul Manafort pardon, or even — most controversially — a pardon of himself. But even if none of those come to pass, he's feeding his overriding narrative in the Mueller case. And that's controversial enough.

....In his first seven months as president, Mr. Trump has done nothing for American workers. In fact, his attempt to undermine the Affordable Care Act, his retreat from Labor Department regulations boosting overtime pay, and his proposed tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations will make most workers worse off.

But he is in office because of workers' anger and distrust. "The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country," Mr. Trump said in his inaugural address. "Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs."

Tragically, Mr. Trump was right.

Now, all of us are paying the price.

...Like all of those cases, D'Souza did not apply for a pardon with the Office of the Pardon Attorney, the Justice Department unit that conducts investigations of pardon cases and sends recommendations to the president. Under Justice Department rules, D'Souza would be ineligible through that process because he's on probation.

Likewise, neither Blagojevich nor Stewart has applied for clemency.

The president's constitutional authority to pardon is not bound by those rules, so Trump has granted politically charged pardons though he denied 180 applications from people who applied through the Justice Department....
