Your phone is killing your ability to focus at work — even if you think it isn't

For the study, the researchers asked hundreds of people to work on two different cognitive tasks. Sometimes people were asked to leave their phones on the desk; sometimes in their pocket or bag; sometimes in another room. In all cases, sounds and vibrations were turned off.

Results showed that people performed best on the tasks when their phones were in another room. Even when participants were asked to turn their phones' power off, they still performed better when their phones were out of sight.

Yet when the researchers asked participants later whether the location of their phone had affected their performance, most said it hadn't. That suggests our phones are influencing our behavior in ways we might not even be consciously aware of. ...

Some of the truckers that stop by from time to time affectionately refer to me as the "Possum Aficionado"

Not sure why...

Most people I've observed are just mindlessly scrolling. You can tell by the dumb look on their faces. It's a drug no doubt and it's doing just as much damage as any other.

I no longer know how many times I stop during the day to check my cell phone while I'm working. Our focus is shaken by this incredible tool.

Them's mighty fierce words from a feller who says he's "movin'" ever' time he pushes his shoppin' cart to the other side of the road. I may be pore, but leastwise I've got a drivin' license fer mah goat cart. The only pitcher ID yew have is the one down at the Post Office.

What do you know about soup cans, a luxury I know you can't afford? Store bought soup for mountain folk...please. Maybe you found a couple of empty cans in the townfolks trash, and have them on display so all of your kin can envy you while thinking you're wealthy? Now that's just deceitful.

I don't know if two foam cups attached by a piece of string counts, hick. I know it's probably the latest and greatest technology for your family and kin, but I don't think you'll need to be concerned about losing focus with those. Especially at work since you need both hands to milk goats.

I heard about a feller who had a raccoon as his pet, thought that sounded cool, but I'd like a red fox as a pet, but certain laws preclude me from having such a pet. ☹️

I noticed that this Huffington Post article recommended too many apps that had psychobabble and perhaps even Zen in it Just go to the Google app store if you're using an Android device and see what might intrigue you. I see there is a free version of Luminosity there. I usually do not bother with those things anyway. But undoubtedly some here would find these programs of great benefit.

Always of great benefit:

Philippians 4:8-9
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.---ESV
