About a quarter of U.S. adults say they are ‘almost constantly’ online
As smartphones and other mobile devices have become more widespread, 26% of American adults now report that they go online “almost constantly,” up from 21% in 2015, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in January 2018.

Overall, 77% of Americans go online on a daily basis. That figure includes the 26% who go online almost constantly, as well as 43% who say they go online several times a day and 8% who go online about once a day. Some 11% go online several times a week or less often, while 11% of adults say they do not use the internet at all. ...

I tend to think you have hit the nail on the head, so to speak.
I have been thinking; like many, that we are rushing at breakneck speed toward a cashless society, which has only one goal.
To prepare the way for antichrist, and the introduction of taking the mark.
After all, whilst the son of perdition is no doubt desperate to make his earthly appearance. The stage must be set, and the conditions in place where, taking the mark will be technically possible to implement.
As a non pretrib believer, I believe that the Saints alive at the time will recognise him for who he is...
We are in for a rough 31/2 years from the date of us recognising the son of perdition

This reminds me of the news story about how much TV people are watching. It said that retirees watch 51 hours a week on average. That's more than 7 hours a day! And this didn't include any screen time with smartphones, though laptops and computers could have been included. Another article said that people are sleeping less, watching a bit less TV, in order to fit in all this other 'screen time.'
Pretty soon, I predict the day when you won't have to go to church, just go online to a website and listen to recorded sermons or watch a live service. And you will have more friends all around the world in our online world. In fact, as people move around the country, you will be able to keep in touch with them with your smartphone.

YIA. I believe we are heading that way too. Even now, it is perferable to scan coupon codes from your phone. Order things via saved credit cards on your phone. And now, smart watches have a built in account link to simply swipe your watch and pay for things. The governemnt can track evrything by our phones so they encourage us to use phones for payments.

YIA, yes, I believe it is a form of oppression, enforcing the way we live and work. And if this has anything to do with the book of Revelation, how easy it is to capitulate and bow down to the mark of the beast.

But if it has nothing to do with the cashless society and the book of Revelation, discernment will be needed to evaluate the Christian response.

With a cashless society in China, your phone becomes your cash, and must be with you at all times, using data, otherwise many bazaars, restaurants and peasant run stores don't give out change, or even take cash. I assume this is the future for North Amerans, maybe?
