Unearthed in Rome’s New Subway: Extinct Elephants and Persian Peach Pits

The ancient Romans were celebrated for their engineering feats: roads that helped expand an empire; aqueducts that quenched throngs and supplied lavish fountains; monumental bridges, some of which are still in use today.

So it seems apt that a modern engineering achievement — the construction of a new subway line in the city — has given archaeologists a unique opportunity to study this ancient world in extraordinary detail.

“This subway has provided a wealth of knowledge about the city that no other operation could have duplicated,” said Rossella Rea, the archaeologist who has overseen the project since planning for the subway line began in the 1990s. ...

Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

Agreed brother.

You may not know this, but this Romanist mystic is also hailed by so called "christian" feminists.

Yes brother, it is sad indeed. Poor John may not recognize this but his doctrinal compromise is noticeable as is his personal declension. He seems to be always looking for an answer to some sort of unrest within himself and since reading Guyon a year or so ago, many of his posts, including recent ones (e.g. the simplicity of faith) echo this mystic. One wonders whether he is not on the road to Rome himself. :'(

Quite sad.
Thanks for your comment sister! It will be interesting to see how the Lord works this all out.

I like Observer go a long way back with JohnUK. For years we exchanged thoughts like true brothers in Christ. I used to defend him when he was falsely attacked and he did likewise. He and I addressed each other as fellow pilgrims and I truly believed we were on the same page.
Now of course, that relationship is for all practical aspects null and void. I cannot fellowship with anyone who supports the Grahams and especially someone who gives credence to a female mystic. Everyone draws lines in the sand and he has crossed my lines. To me this is very sad and that is the same thing brother Observer voiced. I guess the best way to say it is my heart is grieved.
But, I want to thank the two of you for your persistence in getting these issues in the light. I can’t do that anymore, either due to a spiritual deficiency or to old age.

Exactly Bro. Frank, that little game is used to justify holding fast to error. It also is evidence one lacks discernment.

John UK and John Y are both like parrots, using mental gymnastics in an attempt to twist and bend their opposition - hoping to silence them and convince others they are truly born again. Now, IF they are, they will repent of their vile defense of Roman Catholicism, which is anti-Christ.

It's convenient for sowing confusion and discord and when one wants to remain unrepentant.

Maybe you should start using my moniker?

Excellent points, they have NOT gone unnoticed.
'So, why would anyone even begin to defend anything that MG ever said?

And yet, we have that very thing taking place don't we? J.UK still defends her, even as late as his last post. Like I stated, one's theology determines the 'jesus' they worship. Now, since MG was a female Roman Catholic, is her 'jesus' the same one found in the bible John UK? Yes or no? You, John UK, would do well to study what it is the RCC teaches, and all who adhere to those teachings worship a different jesus. Again, that sails right over your head. Discernment is a gift from God, not all have it.
"I'm just presenting facts, ladybug" so, MG and her 'autobiography' are now factual? When one goes off the rails, they really go all the way. Again, MG is a ROMAN CATHOLIC. Roman Catholicism is not biblical Christianity. Your defense of her and attempting now to justify your continual posting of her shows you have no discernment or understanding of what Roman Catholicism is, or you DO and are playing dumb to promote RCC here......

I mentioned this once before, but since no one commented on it I will expand my thought somewhat.

MG was a woman and in the history of the Christian church there has never been a female leader or a female theologian of any kind. All of the women that have gained notoriety by starting a movement have started cults or were part of cults, like Catholicism.

So, why would anyone even begin to defend anything that MG ever said?

She was a woman.
She was catholic.
She was a mystic.

Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

Your continual defense of and quoting of MG is evidence against you. Your comment from 9:13 this morning is a defense of MG-"Methinks you would do well to read and study her autobiography and get the facts from the mystic's own mouth." Why would the elect 'study' a Roman Catholic mystic? Or quote her? As I stated from Gilley in my last post, " But with whom the mystic believes they come into union is determined by the mystic’s belief system" Guyon was a Roman Catholic, so her 'jesus' is based on RCC doctrine and theology. That seems to escape you.
You aren't fooling anyone, you have an evil agenda to push --- Roman Catholicism. It started with your speaking well of BG, you deny supporting both BG and MG, yet you continue to post quotes from MG excessively. You've spoken favorably of BG as well, another ecumenical who leads sinners back to Rome.
You have been outed for what you are, now the elect must separate from you, and continue to expose your agenda.
My prayer is the moderator will stop you from going way off track from the original story posted and NOT give you a platform to use to push your evil Roman Catholicism agenda.

Ladybug, one day you are criticising me for "cherry-picking" from her autobiography, next thing you are criticising me for posting too much. It is not really kosha to be so double-tongued.

You say I have an evil agenda to push - Roman Catholicism. That is a lie of the devil, ladybug.

The quotes I posted from MG you cannot disagree with, which is why you haven't torn her words to shreds.

You have been outed for what you are, a liar, now the elect must separate from you, and continue to expose your agenda.

My prayer is the moderator will stop you from going way off track from the original story posted and NOT give you a platform to contaminate others with John 9 Syndrome and the Diotrephes Sydrome, as it appears you have both.

I'm just presenting facts, ladybug, and pray that the Lord will help you in your great distress.

Oh and if you want to learn how to deal with it, read Madame Guyon's autobiography. Maybe then you won't (as Observer said) get so upset that you couldn't bear to come on the forum. There IS a solution for that, but only in Christ Jesus.

Thankfully, the Lord takes a different view.
2 Thess 3.14 ... if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

But, can we expect any shame from John UK? That is the question!

Well ladybug, you are again misrepresenting me. I do not say it is "good to go" to quote any heretic. I don't know where you got that from, but according to Observer's ultimatum, you need to stash that along with all your other lies and misrepresentations, and find repentance, or you too will come under his displeasure and he will no longer regard you as a Christian sister.

That fact that Guyon is Roman Catholic is reason enough to avoid her writings, but, she was also a mystic- a double whammy.
This is from Gary Gilley....
“The mystic believes that there is an absolute and that he or she can enjoy an unmediated link to this absolute in a superrational experience” (emphasis mine).[4] But even here there are at least three distinct categories of mysticism: panenthenic, in which, as Carl Jung thought, a segment of the collective unconscious intrudes on the conscious mind; monistic such as found in Hinduism and Buddhism whereby the individual is merged into the impersonal All, whatever that is called; and theistic in which the absolute is God, although not necessarily the true God.[5] The actual experience by these various types of mystics is very similar. But with whom the mystic believes they come into union is determined by the mystic’s belief system, as William James’ research demonstrated decades ago." from http://apprising.org/2010/06/04/mysticism

Take note of that last sentence, for it is crucial!
Using J.UK's logic, it is now okay to quote any heretic, as long as they sound 'good' from time to time. That's why I quoted Pope Francis before identifying it was him, to prove the foolishness of J.UK's thinking.

Oh the bliss of ignorance!

Here is something from Warfield's article to consider:

"Christian mysticism... obviously differs in no essential respect from the parallel phenomena which are observable in other religions. It is only general mysticism manifesting itself on Christian ground and interpreting itself accordingly in the forms of Christian thought. It is mysticism which has learned to speak in Christian language."

Poor John quotes Guyon and attributes evangelical sentiments to her words, when he doesn't have a clue what she really meant by them.

I bet he's never studied mysticism or what they believed but then he shows by most of his comments that studying is not really what he likes. He likes to be dogmatic based on the slenderest of grounds.

And all this is still a diversion for his continuing impenitence! Can a Christian conscience continue in such obduracy?

More later.

I wonder how many 9 yr olds could testify this:

"I providentially found a Bible and having both a fondness for reading and a happy memory, I spent whole days in reading it from morning to night." MG

I wonder if John Bunyan could relate to this:

"O my God, thy grace seemed to be redoubled in proportion to the increase of my ingratitude! It was with me as with a city besieged, Thou didst surround my heart, and I only studied how to defend myself against thy attacks. I raised fortifications about the wretched place, adding every day to the number of my iniquities to prevent Thee taking it. When there was an appearance of Thy becoming victorious over this ungrateful heart, I raised a counter-battery, and threw up ramparts to keep off thy goodness, and to hinder the course of thy grace. None other could have conquered than Thyself." MG

Seems to me as though God was outside seeking entrance. Does it not? And that God eventually gained the victory, a trophy of grace, even though there was a definite attempt to keep him out, in keeping with the doctrine of man's nature without Christ, being a rebel and will not have God at any price.

Methinks you would do well to read and study her autobiography and get the facts from the mystic's own mouth.

The same God tells us how to nurture spiritual babes, my advice would be I Peter 2: 2 not MG's books

Spurgeon the Prince of Preachers spoke well of George Fox; even the Revised Version. It is difficult to pin Fox down; one minute he appears pure gospel, the next he follows 'inner light'. Bad theology of course gave rise to the excesses of the Quakers and then imbibed by the Charismatic movement.

Wesley was carried away by perfectionism and influenced by Guyon but warned:
AD 1776
" 'The grand source of all her mistakes was this, the not being guided by the written word. She did not take the Scripture for the rule of her actions; at most it was but the secondary rule. Inward impressions, which she called inspirations, were her primary rule. The written word was not a lantern to her feet, a light in all her paths. No; she followed another light, the outward light of her confessors, and the inward light of her own spirit.' (An extract of the Life of Madam Guion. By John Wesley)

You'll find every charismatic quack recommends Guyon's works, why? (google?). The reason is quite clear if you read other posts and it is hard to pin down her theology even after priso

I was always told never to take links from strangers.

But here's something of interest:

Romans 8:30 KJV
(30)  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

The predestinating purposes of God will always be worked out, even in the midst of rank error, in the which the poorly child found herself at birth and beyond. Being born into and continually surrounded by Roman Catholicism, with all its brainwashing and false doctrines, is no barrier for the Almighty God to call his elect and justify them and one day glorify them, even if they are unable to articulate their experience in a way acceptable to modern Protestantism and those with John 9 Syndrome.

As I said before, I would not recommend anyone to go to her for their theology; rather (as Mr Spurgeon said), to observe her life as a classic example of fortitude in the midst of terrible circumstances. If any wish to attribute to me any motive other than that, they are either vainly deceived or telling deliberate lies, which both have their own consequences.

BTW it was God who said he reveals things unto babes rather than the spiritual elite.
