Church buys pub to spread the Word of God via craft ale?
St Thomas's Church in Norwich bought the pub next door for £500,000 after the Reverend Ian Dyble remembered seeing a vicar behind a bar many years earlier.
"It was in the Lake District on holiday, in my pre-vicar days. I remember thinking what a good idea it was to engage in the community in that way, because as we all know, people's interest in church is waning. It's a way for us to reach out into the community," he said.
Now the tax collectors and sinners were all drawing near to hear him. And the Pharisees and the scribes grumbled, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them." - Luke 15:1-2
To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings. - 1 Corinthians 9:21-23
Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there. - Acts 17:16-17
Amen Quiet Christian. Too many churches appeal to the flesh and lean upon the arm of the flesh. The true remnant of God will reject most of what calls itself 'church', and follow hard after God. The true church is not brick and mortar buildings or man made denominations. Those who've been born again by God already know this....
The Quiet Christian wrote: Once upon a time, Christians recognized the importance of living a lifestyle that reflected the salvation that brought them out of the world. We need to go back to that time & stop trying to figure out how to fit as much of the world as we possibly can into our Christian testimonies.

Liberal thinking!! If "grace" isn't working any more then buy a pub!!
Liberal Religion is all about human effort. Supernatural possibilities do not exist for them, thus if man does not do it - then God doesn't.
"When Bishop John Robinson used the word ‘God’ in his book Honest to God, he gave it an entirely new meaning. No longer is God the almighty and sovereign Creator and Redeemer; rather, He is simply the ‘Ground of Our Being’, the quintessence of man. Bishop Robinson then continues to use the word ‘God’, but with his meaning attached to it—thus spreading confusion amongst those who are unaware of his definition of the word. When liberals like John Robinson or David Jenkins recite the opening clause of the creed, ‘I believe in God . . .’, they do not mean what we mean by it. As Alice objected to Humpty Dumpty’s misuse of language, so we must object when liberal theologians do the same thing; ‘The question is, whether you can make words mean so many different things.’" (Reg Burrows)
He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.Job5:13 -- For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. 1Cor3:19 -- 2Cor4:2"But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God." -- That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Eph4:14 -- No need of a pub-"Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. "Dt32:3 -- Ps68:11"The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it."
Abstain from all appearance of evil. - 1 Thessalonians 5:22
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind, which is, that he which hath suffered in the flesh, hath ceased from sin,That he hence forward should live (as much time as remaineth in the flesh) not after the lusts of men, but after the will of God.For it is sufficient for us that we have spent the time past of the life, after the lust of the Gentiles walking in wantonness, lusts, drunkenness, in gluttony, drinkings, and in abominable idolatries. - 1 Peter 4:1-3
As absurd as this English church's outreach plan sounds, there are churches in the U.S., even ones that proport to be conservative, that hold Bible studies over so-called "adult beverages." Once upon a time, Christians recognized the importance of living a lifestyle that reflected the salvation that brought them out of the world. We need to go back to that time & stop trying to figure out how to fit as much of the world as we possibly can into our Christian testimonies.
