The Left is Mad at a NYC Councilman Who Gave Funds to a Crisis Pregnancy Center

A New York City councilman is under fire from some on the left for allocating funds to a crisis pregnancy center which does not promote abortion.

According to the New York Post, City Councilman Peter Koo (D-Queens) allocated $24,000 in city funds to go to The Bridge to Life, a crisis pregnancy center which does not support abortion, but seeks to help poor pregnant women by providing cribs, diapers, and other necessities.

Koo has been accused of being “anti-choice” and “anti-woman” by Alison Tan, who is in the running for Koo’s council seat.

The National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund’s Andrea Miller added that public funding shouldn’t go to organizations “that lie and manipulate” pregnant women. ...

... George Monboit (no friend of religion's role in politics) has correctly described the GOP's brand of libertarianism as

"a pitiless, one-sided, mechanical view of the world, which elevates the rights of property over everything else, meaning that those who possess the most property end up with great power over others. Dressed up as freedom, it is a formula for oppression and bondage. It does nothing to address inequality, hardship or social exclusion. A transparently self-serving vision, it seeks to justify the greedy and selfish behaviour of those with wealth and power."

This is a soulless, materialist, view of the world that transforms unbounded greed and selfishness into positive goods. It is a recipe for creating a reckless and irresponsible rent-seeking elite, and then keeping it in power. It bears no resemblance to the world-view articulated in the Sermon on the Mount.

Brother Frank, "Yes, Jim is quite the troll. Abortion is murder and anyone who believes that society can or should pay women off so they won’t murder their children is clueless. Why not give money to drug dealers so they won’t sell drugs? Or give money to thieves so they won’t steal? He is making women out to be victims instead of people who can decide what is right and what is wrong." excellent points - that's what happens when the liberal agenda is exposed - it simply makes no sense.

Excellent comments sister Ladybug! Yes, Jim is quite the troll. Abortion is murder and anyone who believes that society can or should pay women off so they won’t murder their children is clueless. Why not give money to drug dealers so they won’t sell drugs? Or give money to thieves so they won’t steal? He is making women out to be victims instead of people who can decide what is right and what is wrong. The reason for abortion is simple. Immoral women consider an unwanted life to be an inconvenience of some sort. And the more promiscuous they are, the more of this world they can have.

I remember Obama’s now famous response to the question as to when life begins. He smiled and said “that is above my pay grade”! And yet, he led the most abortion friendly government that has ever existed. He doesn’t know and yet he is willing to murder! And of course Jim's heroine Hillary said that abortions actually serve God!

And you are so right in saying those that support abortion are just as guilty before our heavenly Father as those that undergo an abortion. Without the supporters, you wouldn’t have abortions. Helping a woman have a child is great; helping them murder their children is evil. There should "never" be no choice!

More diversion from the liberal troll. The fact is this...murder of the pre-born is forbidden by God. It isn't about helping others, it's about addressing the ROOT of the problem-- the sin of murder. That is what needs to be addressed, and that is done by proclaiming the Gospel and presenting murder for what it is. Then, pulling verses out of context in an attempt to lay a 'guilt trip' on the elect IF we do not support women who need assistance, whether he has proof or not.

The troll is now trying to justify murder by stating we all should give financially. For if we don't then it's our fault babies are murdered right? Lincoln is using every liberal angle he has to tap dance around the root of this issue...what a sad and twisted man you are Jim. "Unless you are born again, you will not see the kingdom of God"

Tell us, if you give $$ to an unwed mother to help her, how have you affected her eternal destination? BTW, Gov. assistance programs like medicaid/WIC/link pays for hospital bills, provides formula for babies, and food for them as they grow. These gov. programs are funded by who Jim? The taxpayer

Mike of NY, you may possibly have a point with BDM. Third-party help I can think of one very good example in the New Testament. I think I have a tendency to take this Parable literally while many other people don't want to,

The GOP is often described as America's pro-life political party. In reality, however, the GOP is not pro-life. At best, it's merely anti-abortion. At worst, it's simply misogynistic. Regardless, the Republican Party's concern for human dignity ends the moment someone is actually born. After that, it's the coldness and cruelty of Ayn Rand and social Darwinism, all the way down.

I think I'm very correct that God hates abortion. I think I'm very safe in making that assumption. You know one thing one doesn't have to make an assumption about? God states very clearly in the Bible-- He hates liars there is nowhere in the Bible, "The ends justify the means"!

Revelation 21:8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”---ESV

Mike, the CPC in New York City seems to be doing at the right way - - let's hope all CPC's follow that example.

"BDM" is in error. Sorry, but laws against any crime do the same thing, Jim. Laws against murder, stealing, etc., are all third party "interfering and attempting" to keep individuals from harming others. Why is this a bad thing when against abortion in your worldview? Or are murder and theft no longer against God's command?

Birthright International and another example, Lincoln Crisis Pregnancy Center.
The issue Jim is to stop the murder of innocent human beings. Just to remind folks of your favorite link; to show your hypocrisy.
BIRTHRIGHT DOES NOT
...use "scare tactics" or pressure.
...show abortion slides or pictures.
...picket or harass abortion clinics.
...evangelize.
...lobby for legislative changes or engage in the public debate on abortion.
It is a innocent human life and it is intentionally killed; therefore it is murder and all those who support it like you do are accomplices to murder.
Late edit.

Birthright wrote:
Birthright takes a non-moralistic, non-judgmental approach toward helping women through their pregnancy dilemmas. Louise regretted the fact that some young unmarried mothers were belittled or ostracized by their relatives: "I can never see anything wrong with any of them." At Birthright, Louise recreated the supportive homelike environment they deserved. Moreover, Louise helped formulate a Charter, followed by all Birthright chapters worldwide, to define Birthright's services, to ensure that pregnant women receive the same considerate treatment at every Birthright chapter, and to help volunteers preserve Birthright's good reputation in the future.

Unfortunately some crisis pregnancy centers do give Christianity a bad name, see the Wikipedia article, ]]Crisis pregnancy center. I assume that the Lincoln and Omaha ones have a much higher standards then the ones mentioned in the Wikipedia. The New York one seems to have set a fine example also.

BDM wrote:
... As we wrap up this survey of incidents in the Scriptures which involved acts of civil disobedience, we must strongly affirm that the Scriptures do show that there is a proper time and situation when the believer is obligated to disobey the civil government. In each of these cases, two parties were involved, the government which mandated that an individual take a particular action, and the individual who chose to obey God rather than man.

However, there is an important difference between these situations and those confronting the believer in the abortion crisis. In the rescue scenario, we have a third party interfering and attempting to keep another individual from disobeying God's command.

The law and the Gospel are what changes hearts. Posting liberal links and making excuses certainly will not end murdering babies, but that isn't your goal anyway is it Jim? Your view is that all babies go to heaven anyway, so who cares if they are killed right Jim?

BTW, brother Frank has exposed your 'birthright international' liberal link, yet you keep throwing it out there as some 'legit' means to support your evil agenda.

The above an interesting story, below an organization to check out.
]]http://tinyurl.com/zy5vda5 (Birthright International), so is this organization.

The Crisis Pregnancy Center in the story was obeying the law. Apparently it wasn't using any subterfuge. Something that Christians are not supposed to be doing.

Erin Durkin wrote:
“I can’t imagine it being criticized,” said executive director Virginia Gallo. “I don’t understand why more of the Council members are not on board with us.”

The Council sought to crack down on crisis pregnancy centers, which critics say mislead women into thinking they’re medical providers, by requiring them to post signs disclosing that they don’t provide medical services. Bridge to Life complies with that rule.

The group serves about 4,000 women a year with free pregnancy tests, donations of maternity and baby clothes and supplies, and referrals to housing and other services, Gallo said.

"The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of islands be glad!" Psalm 97:1
"Woe to you, oh land, when your king is a child," Eccles. 10:16. That is—weak, injudicious, thoughtless and peevish. This is the denunciation of Solomon, a sage philosopher, and an opulent king, whose station, capacity, and inclination, conspired to give him the deepest skill in politics. This denunciation has been accomplished in every age. Empires have fallen, liberty has been fettered, property has been invaded, the lives of men have been arbitrarily taken away, and misery and desolation have broken in like a flood—when the government has been entrusted in the hands of tyranny, of luxury, or rashness! And the advantages of beneficial climate and soil, and all others which nature could bestow, have not been able to make the subjects happy under the baleful influence of such an administration!

It has frequently been the unhappy fate of nations to be enslaved to such rulers. But such is the unavoidable imperfection of all human governments, that when, like our own, they are managed by the best minds and hands, they are attended with many calamities, and cannot answer several valuable ends."

It sounds like a pretty good outfit to me.
Post Editorial Boar wrote:
the National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund’s Andrea Miller says public money shouldn’t go to organizations “that lie and manipulate” pregnant women. But while The Bridge to Life says its mission is “to make every effort to save the baby,” its backers deny that it lies.

“If I thought there was anything disingenuous or deceptive or misleading that they were doing, I wouldn’t be giving them funding,” insists Councilman Eric Ulrich (R-Queens), who, like Koo, describes himself as pro-choice.

“All I tell [women in need] is you have choices,” says The Bridge To Life’s Virginia Gallo. “I can help you with adoption . . . get you free medical care. It’s not all political.”
Groups like Planned Parenthood get tons of public cash. So why shouldn’t a charity that opposes abortion qualify, too?
